A senator, Sonni Ogbuoji, has emerged the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State.

He defeated eight other aspirants to pick the party’s governorship ticket for next year’s general election.

The election took place at Pinnacle Hotel in Abakaliki, the state capital.

The senator is currently representing Ebonyi South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

He garnered 785 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bernard Odoh, who polled 519 votes.

Mr Ogbuoji will face the incumbent governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, David Umahi, in the main election next year.

Both candidates are from Ebonyi South zone.

While Mr Ogbuoji hails from Afikpo South Local Government Area, Mr Umahi is a native of Ohaozara Local Government Area.

Ogbonnaya Onu wants to deliver Ebonyi to APC to make a statement for his 2023 presidential bid but he just goofed.

His best bet would have been to give the ticket to someone from the North ( Edeze especially) but he just threw the chance away.

Except Edeze is made deputy to Ogbuorji, APC should forget Ebonyi.

If not for the stupidity of Darlington Okereke and the careless statements he made in 2011, this Sunny guy would not have smelt senate in the first place.

He was a nobody in 2011 who pdp singlehandedly pushed to senate. Now, he wants to challenge the almighty Dave Umahi. If Dave could win in 2015, then this Sunny boy is simply a walk over for him.

Now the incumbent governor will cruise to victory. APC with Ogbuorji stands no chance.

If it is Bernard odoh,I would have say that it s going to be tough but this sonny ogbuoji who it s based on struggle that they managed to return him to senate.
That means that Dave doesn't have any opposition at all.

Haha, worst mistake of APC in Ebonyi... a ward council in any political party in Ebonyi State will defeat Ogbuorji even in his (Ogbuorji's) polling unit. I'm neither a politician nor do I like the incumbent but, that's just the truth.

I learned that Umahi is from minority in ebonyi. Afikpo people will definitely vote their own while Martins elechi and Ogbonna onu will add their own too. PDP looks like they are living on borrowed time in ebonyi.
