The United Kingdom has pledged to partner the Federal Government in its efforts to clean Ogoni area of Rivers State and other environmental challenges across the country.

Ogoni land, polluted by oil spills. Ms. Lavie Beaufils, the British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, conveyed the pledge, yesterday, Abuja when she paid a courtesy visit on the Minister of State for Environment, Alhaji Ibrahim Jibril, according to NAN.

Beaufils said that the British government had resolved to assist Nigeria in Ogoni clean-up efforts, ocean protection and green finances.

She noted that many countries, including Nigeria, were facing some environmental challenges, adding that UK was ready to assist Nigeria in efforts to deal with the challenges.

The envoy said that her visit was aimed at discussing the way forward with the minister and proffer solutions to some of the environmental challenges facing Nigeria, as she expressed concern over the flooding ravaging parts of the country and underscored the need to find long-term solutions to it. Responding, Jibril thanked the envoy and the British Government for the intervention, which was aimed at addressing the environmental challenges facing the country.

He said, “As we are all aware, climate change is a global challenge and Nigeria is not left out and our country is mostly affected by the vagaries of its dry and wet seasons.

The coastal region is mostly affected by the flood, while the northern parts of the country usually experience desert encroachment, particularly during the dry season.

“The country is faced with a lot of environmental challenges which include erosion, desertification, land degradation, among others,” he said.

I pray the clean up will kick-off with immediate alacrity and other areas can be touched for development. Buhari still remain the viable option to take this land to greater height. Slow and steady win the race. Initially, I was thinking the pace was slow but remembered Rome was not built in a day. Oh my good Lord, you know I worship you to the best of my capability, I want you to return Baba Buhari and make him the messiah of good development in the nation. Punish the looters and their cronies. Shame them all come 2019. Amen!

May Buhari succeed in governance and reelection in 2019.

God bless President Muhammad Buhari!
God bless Nigeria and Nigerians!!

Ogoni clean up is long overdue.
Top things you need to know about Ogoni local government and the Ogoni clean up.
1. Ogoni rose to international attention after a massive public protest campaign against Shell Oil, led by the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP).
2. The territory is located in Rivers State on the coast of the Gulf of Guinea, east of the city of Port Harcourt. It extends across the Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Khana, Gokana, Eleme and Tai. Traditionally, Ogoniland was divided into the six kingdoms: Babbe, Gokana, Ken-Khana, Nyo-Khana, Eleme and Tai.Nyo-Khana is on the East while Ken-Khana is on the west.
3. The Ogoni people have been victims of human rights violations for many years. In 1956, four years before Nigerian Independence, Royal Dutch/Shell, in collaboration with the British government, found a commercially viable oil field on the Niger Delta and began oil production in 1958. In a 15-year period from 1976 to 1991 there were reportedly 2,976 oil spills of about 2.1 million barrels of oil in Ogoniland, accounting for about 40% of the total oil spills of the Royal Dutch/Shell company worldwide.

4. Those of you living in Abuja, FCT that have value for their vehicle should bring in their vehicle to our Ultra Modern Vehicle Repair Facility for a specialized computer based diagnostics followed by a comprehensive manual diagnostics procedure that would figure out anything at all that is wrong with your vehicle.

Now the beauty of our service is that after the diagnostics we recommend actions that must be taken to put the vehicle in order and we give 3 months of guarantee for all our services and spare parts. If you run any of the repairs in our workshop we will return the money you paid for diagnostics back to you in full. We are located at close to Next Cash n Carry Abuja Call Mr Fix it now: 08189742614

5. UNEP estimated that it could take up to 30 years to rehabilitate Ogoniland to its full potential and that the first five years of rehabilitation would require funding of about US$1 billion. In 2012, the Nigerian Minister of Petroleum Resources, Deizani Alison-Madueke, announced the establishment of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Restoration Project, which intends to follow the UNEP report suggestions of Ogoniland to prevent further degradation

So after the campaign & propaganda by the APC with the VP Osinbajo funfare launching of the famed Ogoni Cleanup three years ago, they're now going to partner with the UK? Then shame on them all.

Don't be ignorant. The cleaning up of Ogoni land has recommended by UN years ago. The UN projected the cleaning up will take close to 30years. At different 5stages. Out of which, the first stage of it was just completed few months ago. It was aired live on various Tv stations. The second stage , will definitely commence anytime soon. The APC has kept to their promise. Out of which your Hero ,GEJ who is just 100Klm born away from Ogoni land didn't look at Ogoni struggle while he was president for 6years. The Hausa /Fulani far away 1500Klm is the one taking up the responsibility. If you care to know more about Ogoni cleaning up, log on to :www.hyprep.gov.ng.
