I will try to be brief.

I finished my youth service about two years ago and since then I have been underemployed. God in his infinite goodness gave me a dream job 2 weeks ago. The problem is that the job is a contract job with a big company which will last for about 3 to 5 years with possibility of an extension.

Today I also got news that I have been employed by my state civil service commission.

Now this is where I have a problem. The state job is secure but the salary is far below that of the contract job. The contract job's pay is about 3 times the pay of the government job but it might not last as long as the government job. I will also have opportunities of meeting many high level people and gain valuable experience while doing the contract job which might help me secure bigger jobs later.

My parents and uncles have adviced me to take the government job since there is job security and promotion but my friends and senior colleagues say I should go for the job with the multinational company because I can save up to either relocate out of the country to practice my profession or set up a business in Nigeria plus I will have good connections.

Please fam I'm confused. Every suggestion and advice is appreciated. Thank you.

Dude its like you lack self belief in your abilities. Take the contract job, if you are very good at what you do and network very well you will climb that career ladder quickly with tons of cash in your pocket too.

OR

You could take the government job and watch your peers in the private sector intimidate you as you slowly progress albeit securely with your career.

If you have plans to have your own company couple with facts that you have what its takes to lead then gi for the contract job but if you enjoy serving and keep having a boss with some kind of political mindset stay with ur civil service option .....Alll the best

Oga except the contract job pays 500% higher than what the civil service job would offer. And even with that you should know that you must start investing from d very first day you earn salary. You mustn't dull so that if eventually u are let go after let's say 5 to 10yrs to would hv investments that would last a lifetime.

NB. Is the civil service, state or federal ? if na state brother do not run but rather FLEE. A word is enough for the wise

If you go for the high paying contract Job, you'll make it big, your life would change in an instant. But there's no job security in contract Jobs. You might be kicked off at anytime. But if you go for a government job, you will grow at a slow and constant pace for a very long period of time. But you'll still get there cuz of the job security nature.
Right now I can't say which will suit your destiny, but the best thing you should do is to pray to God for the right direction. God is all knowing, all Wise.

The worst job one can get is a State government job. Is it the one they willl be paying you peanuts and even the peanut will come once in 4 months .. Go for the company job abeg and while on it, build up your contacts, develop yourself and save very well. Good luck!

Job security when states are struggling to pay salaries. Take the the contract job, save heavily and re-invest your savings in properties or treasury bills to stand as back up incase the company doesn't extend the contract beyond 3 to 5years. With your experience, you may get a better job by the end of the contract or better still start your own small scale enterprise. Nigerian government is not reliable, be wise......
