The leader of Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim El Zakzaky and his wife, have arrived Kaduna State High Court which will today rule on the bail application filed by their counsel.

The Shiite leader is facing trial over allegations of culpable homicide, unlawful assembly, and disruption of public peace, among other charges. 

El-Zakzaky and his wife were first arraigned on May 15, 2018, following their arrest in Zaria, in December 2015.

When the matter came up for hearing on October 4, 2018, the presiding judge, Justice Gideon Kurada adjourned his ruling on their bail application to November 7, 2018 due to the absence of the IMN leader and his wife in court as a result of  the visit of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to the state on that date.

The judge however fixed today for the ruling following the written application filed by El-Zakzaky’s counsel during the last sitting on August 2, 2018.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Police Command has restricted movement in Kaduna metropolis over the trial today.

The police warned that the ban on all forms of demonstration or processions is still in full force and called on Kaduna residents to beware of their movement.

Detainment and ordered release
According to the judgment of the high court of Nigeria on 2 December 2016, Ibrahim Yaqoub El Zakzaky was ordered to be released from
Department of State Services (similar to the US
FBI ) detention into police custody within 45 days. El Zakzaky and his wife were to be paid the sum of 50 million Naira ($164,052) in compensation. The judge announced that the justification of "holding him for his own protection" is not sufficient. [6] On January 13, 2018, Zakzaky, detained at an unknown location without charges since December 2015, made a short public appearance, his first in two years, being allowed to see his doctor.
