Creating the Movement for

TRUE LEADERSHIP IN NIGERIA

An open letter to Nigerian youths for massive all states rally on 1st
October 2010; as we create a watershed for transformational
leadership in our nation.

Movement for:
TRUE LEADERSHIP IN NIGERIA

Thank you for taking your time to read through… I believe that at the
end of this you will have reasons to be part of the great hundreds of
thousands of youths that will put their hands on the arc of history of
Nigeria and move it toward a better nation.

Our hope is that where ever this letter gets to, we will have great youth
coalitions come together in every part of Nigeria preparing to create a
watershed move for the determination of the new leadership direction
in this country come 1st October 2010.

Today is the beginning of the great nation we have all be praying for
because I know you will do something now to make the world around
you much better. Many have raised the question about ever getting a
good nation we can be proud of. The International world takes us less
seriously about governance; they are silent about it because they believe
African – even Nigeria can never have good governance. The answer to
this is with you – deep inside you is a calling that you can have and live in
a better world. And no one will give you the desired world but you. You
are the change!

If anyone out there still doubts that Nigeria could turn out well – where
all things are possible, who raise questions about we living in a
prosperous and stable nation, tell them you have the answer of
possibility.

Although for a long time we have been led into fear and doubt about
what we can do about our fate as a nation. The detractors of our
national good have stolen the soul force of the people thereby making
them inactive. They told us we should join the bandwagon, to vote for
wrong candidates, they manipulated the will of the common for a token.
I know that today you will come out and separate yourself from the
camp of the weaklings – from manipulated dummy to becoming an
assertive individual and leader.

Movement for:
TRUE LEADERSHIP IN NIGERIA

Think of this: What do we have in return for the stolen votes and
suffrages? Dilapidated societal structures litter everywhere. The worst
crime against our nation is the one against the upcoming generations; it
is the crime of greed that causes the older generation both dead and
living be canker of the tomorrow of our younger generations and our
children. This is the flow we want to stop in this campaign.

Let the youths and the advancing persons everywhere in our nation rise
with us by 1st October 2010 as we make demand for good governance.
Let us hold rallies that demonstrate our new uncompromising
earnestness for transformational leadership through all sectors of our
society in every town and cities of Nigeria where we have youths.
Change will not come until we ask for it. We have not asked before now
and this is why we have junk leadership; now let us ask and we will
receive.

Let us look into retrospect and justify if there is any reason for us to act
now as youths of our beloved country:

In the late sixties, Gowon took over leadership in Nigeria in his twenties.
Can we still have such now in Nigeria where men at seventies are still
tussling to remain relevant power brokers? This means that the younger
generations are not empowered and trusted to chart their destiny. The
best the youths have access to in today’s politics is becoming instrument
of destruction and manipulation in the hands of these dare devil
politicians. I know you want better relevance in our advancing world
than being instrument of menace. This is what we want to stand up
against in millions across Nigeria – youths and relevant stakeholders
becoming the change agents for good.

Let us look into the early days of our nationhood; we had what was truly
free education, with free books, uniforms, textbooks and writing
materials. The environment of schooling was conducive, and school was
a place every young one wanted to be. We had free boarding system;
free food supply for students and our tertiary institutions were highly
subsidized. This is how things were before mid-eighties. But today’s
school is a far-cry from the description above. What this means is that
the present leaders are not mindful of your future. The irony is that the
same leaders who enjoy the great largesse of free education then, the
same run the leadership affairs of our nations now, but who become
insensitive and hardened to the cause of the younger generations after
them. And you can do something… this is why we want you to chart the
new course where you become the actor himself as you join in this soul-
force that will realize a new world for the Nigerians everywhere –
becoming proud of our nation. You are the change Nigeria need now.

It has been a long time now that many have tried to move a step toward
the realization of a nation we are proud of, but the success is always half
measure, it is not that they have not done their best, but it is issue of
time. The time for a change and a new Nigeria is now. And because you
will be part of the new move, a new defining moment of change is
coming to Nigeria.

If you think of having a future in which you are the determining factor
and not some vain politicians out there, then you will do yourself a good
sacrifice to be part of this history. The new change we are canvassing is
possible through you and without you we cannot realize it.

Before now, your voice may not count but now it is what matters.
Sometime ago your sacrifice and efforts may just be shove aside as
nothing but it is what we earnestly need. And I want to tell you – this is
the one letter that is making a difference everywhere in Nigeria because
everybody is beginning to wake up to the fact that they count. This is
why we are creating this move.

Let no body tell you, you do not count. You are a complete human being
with all the inalienable rights as any other citizen of Nigeria – the one
problem has been that we have been brainwashed that we have no
power. But I want to tell you that you have that great power and that is
why we are looking to you to stand up today for those values that will
make the world around you better.

You are the change Nigeria needs.

Movement for:
TRUE LEADERSHIP IN NIGERIA

Nigeria will be 50 years as an independent nation by 1st October2010.
Our goal is to create a new beginning of nationhood from that day
through nonviolent assertion for true and enduring leadership.

What do we want?

We want hundreds of thousands of youths and relevant stakeholders to
sacrifice their time and effort to march through the streets of Nigeria the
same time between 10am to 2pm on Friday, 1st October 2010. This is the
beginning of great things for us all…

Our dream is to make the rally the most peaceful and advance
sensitization instrument; with a lasting legacy for impact. The message
of the march is creating awareness of non co-operation to bad
leadership from that day forward. We know this is possible if we believe
so. We know that bad leadership thrives because we allow it, it is time
we disallow it in its every form.

What we would do is becoming participatory through our coalition
group of youth-led and relevant organizations like religious groups,
labour groups, civil groups and the likes, in determining what type of
leaders we want by not compromising, and being personally represented
especially at polling booths and election exercises.

This is the beginning of a better day for us as a nation; the reason is
because you will take responsibility to make your generation a better
one.

The responsibility for a great nation is never a one man job – therefore
we want a victory of a great nation to be shared among us all as
participant in making a new society which the leftist thought could never
be realized. A great nation you help to make.

We may not look like the likeliest people to turn the story of this nation
around. We are young people who rejected the myth of impossibilities in
our national affairs – and of millions of supporters across the ends of
Nigeria. From the hinterlands of Obudu, Gboko, Sokoto and the
forgotten corners of our nation there is one dream: awakening of true
and enduring leadership.

On every side men are joining our great team to say no to bad leadership
in every sector. The men, women and children of this nation have one
aspiration – and this aspiration is that positive change in governance is
possible. You know it is possible.

Let us imagine again: there are mothers and fathers who wake night
after nights with troubled mind of how to keep the home running – how
to take care of the children and youths in their custody. There are
jobless youths thronging our roads in their millions not knowing what to
do, and there are people who do not know what to do with their lives
anymore and still the leaders care less. Thus, for the sake of these
voiceless millions we earnestly ask you lend helping hands as we build
the biggest constructive rally in Nigeria.

The journey may be hard and long, but we will get there. One thing: let
us not go to how things used to be but instead learn that greatness is
built on the altar of sacrifice. And the change we want cannot happen
without you. One thing we should know is that without you there cannot
be a Nigeria and without Nigeria there is no you… you are an important
part of a big family.

Let us think of the inglorious years of slavery in Africa, let us think of
colonization of years back – our fathers were instrument to this. Africa…
and Nigeria is already in economic slavery, and still the underdog of the
rest of the world. Not because our country lacks the strength or
resources. Ours has always been a problem of bad leadership. Today we
seek for a new dawn of leadership as you help us realize this: as another
round of election is by the corner we ask for your input in ensuring oneman-
one-vote for the right candidacy, through your votes and other
people’s.

At this point I will like to state that our might and power do not come
from government or political influence, instead our enduring strength
comes from the resolve and commitment of you and me – and the third
person yonder who together believe we can create the change we want.
Creating the change whose ideal is entrenched in peace, freedom, true
democracy, hope and faith. Our number is strengthened by group of
individuals who have chosen to rise to greatness – it is the emerging new
generation who will make a different Africa and Nigeria.

As you make consideration to join us – consider us having a great nation
that is pleasant that the world strive to come into. And on a wider
imagination, if our children and their children should be born what
history will they have of us, fearful or greedy lot? I should suppose
generations in years to come should have a history of great, sacrificial
and valiant ancestors in their record. This is the new history we are set
to make together and this is our chance and moment to make the
difference. Let us make a new beginning on 1st October 2010.

This is our moment to restore prosperity, good governance, promote the
cause of peace; as we uproot fear and doubt of what we can do. Yes we
can make the change. Now is the time to make the change.

Finally we should not be among those who will hide from history, let us
join the people who will change history for good as we come together as
groups in different parts of Nigeria with one voice saying: Yes to
transformational true and enduring leadership in Nigeria.

You are welcome.

Yours truly,

ADEWUMI S. ADEWALE

Nobody will create the change we want, and nobody will change Nigeria for us - it takes our collective effort to do this. Let us be part of the change. What is your role in nation building?
