A Niger Delta militant group, that styles itself Koluama Seven Brothers on Sunday said it carried out a “warning” strike on an oil facility owned by energy company Conoil in Bayelsa.

The attack was carried out on Friday, by the new group at 12:20 a.m. on Jan. 4 at Conoil’s Angle 2 Field.

The group said the attack “is just a warning”.

The organization said it had “no other option than to launch a strike to shut down Conoil” if demands were not met.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps confirmed that a blast was heard on Friday around a Conoil pipeline in Bayelsa.

The militants threatened a production shut down at the facility owned by Mike Adenuga.

The Koluama Seven Brothers said in a statement it would carry out further strikes if its demands, including job creation, were not met by the company and a traditional leader.

Conoil Producing Nigeria operates six highly prospective blocks in the Niger Delta and produces over 80,000 barrels of oil per day, according to information on its website.

Attacks on pipelines and other facilities in the Niger Delta reached a peak in 2016, cutting Nigeria’s crude production from as much as 2.2 million barrels per day (mbpd) to near 1 mbpd – the lowest level seen in at least 30 years, Reuters first reported.

Until Northern Nigeria leaders accept restructuring of our federalism and stop the sharing of Niger delta crude oil money to lazy states there will never be peace.

President Muhammadu Buhari want to waste niger delta crude oil money on the Boko haram insurgency.

This is unacceptable as crude oil as a money spinner is already going away and if oil producing community do not act now they risk never to see development in their communities

Secondly, the federal troops can not defeat boko haram as guerrilla war will drag on an on for decades.

Niger delta with its developmental challenges and difficult terrain including years of abandonment and infrastructural limitations can not afford to continue to foot the huge expenditures of the boko haram insurgency.

Niger delta region has given far too much financial sacrifice to an ungrateful and oppressive Nigeria state.

Solution: I therefore suggests that the federal government commence peace talks with the Boko haram insurgents under a united nation supervised settlement that will led to the granting of a autonomous state to the Boko haram insurgents.

Too much human lives and properties have been lost to the guerilla war.

What will end the bombing of oil facility by militant in niger delta region is for the federal government to stop the sharing of the region crude oil money to states. Instead the oil producing state should pay tax to the federal government in the spirit of true federalism, fiscal federalism and resource control.

Northern Nigeria and its hard line political leaders should not shy off restructuring it is the only way they can achieve the great dream of the late premier of northern region Late Sir Ahmadu Bello.

Late Sir Ahmadu Bello wanted a powerful north that is focus on agriculture as its main stay for revenue earning.

If Sir Ahmadu Bello was to be alive today he will be disappointed with the present northern leaders for shamefully derailing into niger delta crude oil money for their administration.

The same rules applies to the south west and south east. Get your agricultural produce, process it and pay taxes to the federal government.
