Yenagoa — The leaders of the Action Congress (AC) in Bayelsa State yesterday insisted that there would be no automatic ticket for the Bayelsa State governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, as the party would stick to the strict procedures required for new members.

There were indications at the weekend of a new realignment plan by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Chief Sylva to dump the party and move into the Action Congress (AC), in order to secure the ticket for a second term in 2011.

The decision by the governor and his faction to find another nesting ground to actualise his second term ambition, followed the perceived unsuitability of the ongoing reforms of the PDP to the second bid of the governor and the power wielded by President Goodluck Jonathan at the national level.

The plan to move out of the ruling PDP by Sylva and his loyalists heightened with the reported meetings between him,the former governor of Lagos State, Chief Bola Tinubu and other chieftains of the party ahead of AC's convention in Lagos.

While the governorship flag-bearer of the party in the 2007 election and the 2008 re-run election, Mr. Ebitimi Angbare, who expressed caution over the reported decision by Governor Sylva and his loyalists to decamp to the AC, insisted that there was no visible sign indicating that the governor has decided to join the Action Congress.

Other leaders of the Action Congress including a former member of the House of Representatives and the Bayelsa East Senatorial flag- bearer of the party in the 2007 polls, Hon. Ebikekeme Ere, a governorship aspirant under the AC and leader of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) in Lagos, Arch. Denzel Kentebe and the state Chairman of the party, Comrade Miriki Ebikibina, said they were yet to be approached formally by the governor and his loyalists on whether he intends to join the party.

Is that a joke? ANPP has only 3 states, AC has only 3 states as well.
It doesn't matter what party Timipre joins, he cannot beat Jonathan in Bayelsa. The AC is only displaying desperation by taking in an unabashed agbero.

My bad.

@topic
I am wondering why a great guy like Ribadu would want to sacrifice himself so cheaply. Ribadu is one of my very few Nigerian hero's, I just wish he would have the patience to either lead the formation of a worthwile party with grassroots reach and machinery, if he must contest outside of the PDP.
I would have thought this period would be his best chance of securing a powerful bargaining position within the PDP.

AC has lagos and Edo while it formed alliance wth LP in Ondo state.
If push turns to shove,AC will accept Sylva to make needed inroad into that state because of power of incumbency.
AC's transformation(when fully harnessed) will definitely see it take over the entire SW,Some part of North and SS.

Do you realise the President is from that state? And he is in PDP? And Timipre is in dread of EFCC after his immunity ends?

Given the fact that his re-run election was held in 2008, Sylva's tenure will expire in 2012 and not 2011 as presented by this news item. He's not contesting next year.
