Sacked Pdp Executive Protests In Ogun ! by wales(m): 6:38am On Aug 11, 2010
The recently dissolved executive of the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday embarked on a public protest over the harmonization order handed down by the National Headquarters of the party, alleging that former president, Olusegun Obasanjo and Jubril Martins-Kuye were the brains behind the party's "illegal" order.

The party had divided into two factions, with one loyal to the state governor, Gbenga Daniel, while the second is largely made up of the political opponents of the governor. But the new national leadership of the party, last week, ordered the two factions to merge, leading to the sack of the two executives.

The protesters, led by the sacked Secretary of the party, Pegba Otemolu, converged at the party secretariat in Abeokuta to lambast the former president, as well as the Minister of Commerce and Industry, as being responsible for their plight.

Ironically, while the protest was going on, the convoy of Mr Obasanjo, comprising three vehicles, moved from his hilltop home which is a stone throw from the party secretariat, to the Presidential Library, also opposite the party secretariat.

It was not certain whether Mr Obasanjo was inside the tainted jeep known to usually convey him, but the protesting party officials were visibly shocked, as they watched in amazement as the vehicles rolled by.

Some placards carried by the protesters had inscriptions such as ‘OBJ, JMK stop insulting our intelligence, you cannot destroy Ogun PDP' ‘All our exco remain intact, OBJ, JMK are jokers', ‘Joju Fadairo is our authentic chairman,' ‘Nwodo, Ogun PDP is unshaken.'

Mr Otemolu, who alleged that the national leadership of the party was acting a script, said they acted against the party constitution, which the state chapter would not agree with.

Divine protest

Kola Onadipe, another leader of the party, challenged Mr Obasanjo to explain his role in the "illegal" order of the party national headquarters, stressing that, his (Obasanjo) silence showed that he is part of the illegality.

"It is high time Obasanjo must talk. He cannot continue to keep quiet. He is our party BOT Chairman and from Ogun State, so he cannot afford to keep silent over all political issues on ground, which had brought no peace within the party,' said Mr Onadipe, who is also the state commissioner for water resources.

Emma Shoda, a retired colonel and leader of the party, said the protest is a divine agenda which must be won, pointing out that anywhere in the world, a divine agenda always succeeds.

"This one, we will succeed," he told the protesters. "You must not sleep. A child who does not want his mother to sleep will also be sleepless. Our protest is a divine agenda."

Titi Ajanaku, a governorship aspirant, told the party supporters that they should go back to their various wards, units and zones to continue their political work, expressing optimism that the national headquarters' order will not prosper.

She said the order was handed down by the national secretariat, and that the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party, which is its highest ruling body, would overrule the secretariat in a meeting scheduled for Thursday.

Other party leaders who tongue-lashed the party headquarters at the rally include: Lekan Tejuoso, Lola Abiola Edewor, Niyi Osoba, Habeeb Ajayi, Tomi Soboyejo, Faidat Sarumi-Akintunde, Remi Odubote-Ogunkoya, Isikilu Makinde and Sikirulai Ogundele among others.
