Black Parents Not Buying Teacher's Story - "There is Racism"

A parent of one of the four black pupils who were photographed sitting separately from their 18 white classmates on their first day at the Laerskool Schweizer-Reneke in the North West has accused the school of making excuses for their actions.

She is not being named to protect the identity of her child.

"When I got to the class before school in the morning, all the children's names were already written on the desks they were supposed to sit at. The labels had been put on their tables and their aprons," she added.

The mother of the child claimed that another parent had called the school principal, asking about why the children were separated.

The principal had said she would look into the matter.

Several hours later, the parents received a different picture, showing two of the four black children now sitting at the long table with the other white children. Two white children had been moved to the table with the black children.

Asked what the next move would be, the enraged mother said she did not intend moving her child from the school.

"I will keep my child there for the next seven years. We have to be the ones to change things and we can't keep running away from this," she said.

The Sowetan quoted the mother of one of the black pupils as saying that she did not think twice about enrolling her child at the school because her elder son went to the same school. She had not experienced any racism until Wednesday, she told the newspaper.

Let's see how it goes. Though I think racism is a form of inferiority complex, if whites don't want to seat with u it's not by force.

About earning respect, SA's President Cyril Ramaphosa is one of the richest people in the country, and has a long track record of good and honourable service to the nation. And yet last year some Indian dude still disrespected him by going on a video rant and calling him by the k-word (the equivalent of the N-word in the US). Obama experienced the same.

So I don't think there's a direct link between black-excellence and racial abuse (or the lack thereof).

Racists will be racist no matter what. Even Mandela was bashed during democracy.

I know a man that lives in a batcher with 9children 8girls and one boy. Guess where those girls would end up. During the early stage they are made house maids then when they grow up only a few live a reasonable life odas become pregnant and start another circle of poverty or become prostitutes
As in.

Blacks do something relevant to attract world respect, they won't do,
Blacks stop producing baby's you can't take care of, they won't stop.
Blacks use the resources in your countries to develop your continent, they won't, instead they prefer to loot and be greedy.
Blacks learn to love each other, they won't, but you keep hearing of xenophobic attack amongst themselves.

Africans are becoming irrelevant and constituting a nuisance to the world, they love complaining, attracting unnecessary pity towards themselves and always playing the victims card... Is it not this same black South Africans that are launching xenophobic attack against other black nations that are now crying racism, it is mostly the white South Africans that have achieved reasonable things for there country, the other ones just have mass and are there to occupy space and complain

Until the black race develop mentally, politically, economically and otherwise, the world will continue to be racial towards blacks and see them as inferior and irrelevant.

You are here talking all that trash but you've forgotten they're talking about children here.
If they let such issues continue, it would make children grow up with inferiority complex and make them feel less than their white counterparts.

As a black man, what have you achieved for yourself? How many inventions do you have? If those children were yours and you paid so much school fees, would you let it go?

I've experienced subtle racism before, but I can't complain as an adult and I always let my performance speak for me. If you live in a majority white country esp in Europe, you would understand better. But these are children and they are in their continent.

Africans have achieved things and have contributed to development. Civilization started in Africa, maybe you were not taught history. Wars and colonialism were the things that set the continent back so please, we all can't jump into technological advancement at the same pace.

Xenophobia might be in S.A and I condemn it and I believe educated South Africans do so too, but check the Nigerians living there well, while we are majorly hard working people, some of our people are into narcotics and we wouldn't allow such in our country too. At least we see the news and we know how many times our brothers are caught with narcotics and illegal things. Let's call a spade a spade, the school should be made to face the law. This is Africa!

FULL STATEMENT OF SUSPENDED TEACHER

"My job is not politics, but teaching."

I am Elana Barkhuizen. I am a mother. I am a woman. I am a teacher. People who know me say I am a good teacher. People who know me fight to have their children in my class. People who know me know that I put my whole heart into my work for my learners. Since I can remember, it has been my dream to teach small children. It is often a thankless profession, but I am paid in smiles, kisses, and hugs.

I am privileged every year I see how frightened and unsure Grade R learners bloom with a little love and encouragement from my side. The children in front of me all have the same fears and are uncertain about the same things, but they also have the same sparkle in their eyes for the exciting times ahead. My job is not politics, but teaching. My profession is love for children, just because they are children. I see how each of my learners explores a new world and I help them to master that new world. I see how small drooping shoulders transform into jubilation and smiles after a hug. I walk with them every step of the way each year.

My heart breaks every year when I have to say goodbye to them but I am proud to see they are ready for the next step, because that is what I do as a teacher, regardless of race or background. A teacher is the candle that lights children’s small flames, even if it means sacrifices have to be made.

"I do not know what the people who tried to ruin my life wanted to achieve."

Last week my world changed. A photograph I took of a class full of happy, smiling children on their first day of school was used by opportunists against my children, against me, and against my school. Unsure Grade R learners on their first day at school were mercilessly exploited by these people - a day which should have been exciting.

The result traumatised children crying and looking at me for consolation and me trying to calm them down while my life is being destroyed. I do not know what the people who tried to ruin my life wanted to achieve. I just know that I had to stand and watch powerlessly how I was being judged from a stage. I had to endure insults and I was told that I may never teach again. I had to watch how people who have never met me tell me that they know exactly who I am. How they dragged my good name through the mud and then kept on kicking me while I was down just for the fun of it. I will not be told what my worth is by people who do not know me.

"A sincere thank you to all the parents black and white"

I will embark on this journey. I will clear my name. I will take on these people with power and I shall win. I am a good teacher. I am also not alone. Thank you to all the people black and white in my community and nationally -who sent me a message or a prayer. I could not respond to all the messages, but I would like to let you know that I sincerely appreciate every little piece of encouragement which I desperately need at the moment. A sincere thank you to all the parents black and white who repeatedly told the media and all who wanted to listen who I am. It means more to me than you will ever know.

"I will fight"

Do not be sorry for me. I will not surrender. I will fight. I will make sure that what happened to me will never happen to any other teacher. I owe it to my own class, my colleagues and every child in South Africa who needs good teachers.

We dare not allow these people who have spread hate to create doubt in teachers’ minds. Teachers are perhaps the only source of love and support for so many children and teachers are some of the most important figures in children’s lives. I will not allow that those children are deprived of good teachers. I will not allow that teachers will need to continuously walk on eggshells in order for a divisive hate gang to be satisfied.

I am a good teacher. I don’t care about anything other than the well-being of my learners. I will now do and will always do what is best for the children in front of me. If I did not at all times practice that, I would not have been a good teacher. I am Elana Barkhuizen and I will stand up. For myself, for my learners, and for all teachers.

END.

My guy... You are just preaching sermon, where you there to know if truly the woman in question really separated them because she was been racial, how can she be so stupid and still risk her job to take the photo and still post it, you are just being sentimental like the average Negro, because she's white, you saw black kids in a different table, you just concluded she was been racial, nobody gave her a chance to explain herself, they just came to a conclusion and sacked her immediately without further investigation... How unprofessional, blacks are beginning to nag like a pregnant woman, today it's black life matters in America, tomorrow it's blacks crying racism even in there own country...whether you agree with me or not, blacks all over the world are becoming increasingly irritant, they complain too much and that's the bottom line.

If you detest yourself so much don't try to generalize it. South Africans have been through the kind of stuff we can only see in movies like Hotel Rwanda. Just shut up instead of trying to prove you know so much about black people when all u have to say are negative things.

Let South Africans do what they feel is right. It doesn't make sense to encourage such. It's your type that would applaud KKK.
