my thought exactly, imagine where such is replicated at other levels of government that means at anytime any executive sees that judgement is not going to his favour he quickly frame d chief judge of one thing and removes him, then tell me how we can get justice??What all these political supporters fail to understand is that this act goes beyound APC and PDP its all about what the common man will loose in future.we should be careful so that what we support today will not come to hunt us tomorrow.

The Southern and Middle Belt leaders forum has convened an emergency meeting over the suspension of Walter Onnoghen as chief justice of Nigeria (CJN).

On Friday, President Muhammadu Buhari suspended Onnoghen and appointed Ibrahim Muhammadu as the acting CJN.

He backed his action with an order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

In a statement signed by Edwin Clark (south-south); Ayo Adebanjo (south-west); John Nwodo (south-eeast) and Pogu Bitrus (middle belt), the group demanded a reversal of the suspension, describing it as “a coup against constitutional democracy in”.

It called on Nigerians to rise up against “dictatorship” and use all legal means to defend the democracy.

“This is a constitutional crisis foisted by desperation and morbid desire to foist rule of thumb,” the statement read.

“We have checked through the constitution and the President has no power to unilaterally suspend the CJN.

“Section 292 of the amended 1999 Constitution is clear that the President can only remove the CJN with 2/3 of Senate resolution.

“To us, what has been done is resort to self-help after the Court of Appeal issued an order stopping the trial of the CJN by the CCT presided over by a man answering charges in court over corruption allegations but still in office.

“The latest action is a clear suspension of the constitution and enthronement of full blown dictatorship.

“We reject the illegal suspension and demand its immediate reversal. The suspension is null and void and of no effect whatever. An emergency meeting of the Forum holds shortly on this total aberration.

I remember when IBB overthrew Buhari. Almost everything IBB said in his first speech as C-in-C about Buhari is happening again today. Kiddies will not know.

Buhari's coup against Shagari was long expected. Many people including Umaru Dikko, long suspected Buhari. But only 20 months was enough for the military to get tired of Buhari's impunity as C-in-C.

People do not realise the great danger our hard worn democracy is in.

Buhari, who has never liked democracy truncated our best chance to become established as a reliable democracy in 1983. Now he is about to derail this fragile one.

My brother, i dont support corruption but i believe in due process.Have u ever thought of a situation where u aporoach the court maybe because of oppression from d govt and u av a good case only for d executive to frame the judge up and change him hence u loose the case, how will u feel??Oga, if we support this kind of removal today we have just sold our right to justice to the executive.Pls reason beyound political affiliation for d sake of our future.

These are the words of the CJN himself when he gave absolute powers to the CCT when it comes to issues on false asset declaration at a ruling.

He never envisaged that one day he would fall victim to his own ruling. This was spoken when he was interpreting the powers conferred on the CCT by our constitution

Buhari acted within the boundaries of the law

It still doesn't answer the question as to where in the constitution can the CJN be suspended. Why didn't the same tribunal suspend Saraki since it is logical for the executive arm to sack the head of the judicial arm without the input of the NJC or legislative arm of government. You are an APC fanboy, I don't want to waste my time if you can't educate people.

CCT is different from any other court. Let those u mentioned be found wanting by CCT and they will be removed as the law empowered CCT

I think the analogy is different. Issue here is can a known drunkard be allowed to be the head of a church or mosque?
Same thing here, a corrupt person must not be allowed to head supreme court of Nigeria, the man has admitted to wrong doing, the body i.e NJC to pronounce him guilty, he crudely suspended their sitting indefinitely.
We need clean and if possible without blemish individual to head as sensitive as the supreme court.
