A video has been making the rounds of a disgruntled legal practitioner who has been identified as Okere Kingdom Nnamdi, protesting outside the Federal High Court in Abuja, in which he claims the new CJN is unqualified for the position because "he was never called to bar and is a Sharia court Judge". Upon research from information freely available on the public domain, these claims were however found to be patently false.

His words: "There are so many lacunas in the 1999 Constitution,” he said. “That same constitution will tell you that an Islamic scholar from a Sharia Court of Appeal can be promoted to the Supreme Court of Nigeria, not minding that he was not called to the Nigerian Bar, that he didn’t read law, because he is an Islamic Scholar.”

“That was how the likes of Tanko Muhammad came to the Supreme Court. Let him tell us his enrolment number. Every Nigerian lawyer that is called to the Nigerian Bar that attended a university and the Nigerian Law School has an enrolment number. He does not have any,” he alleged.

THE FACTS

1. Justice Tanko attended Government Secondary School, Azare where he obtained the West Africa School Certificate in 1973 before he later proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University where he received a bachelor's degree in Law in 1980. The new CJN was called to bar in 1981 after graduating from the Nigerian Law School. He later obtained a Master and Doctorate (Ph. D) degree from the same university in 1984 and 1998 respectively

2. He was appointed Chief Magistrate in the FCT High Court in 1989 where he served for 2 years (not Sharia court, but they won't mention this).

3. He was sent to the Sharia Court of Appeal (Bauchi) in 1991 where he served for ONLY TWO (2) YEARS before he was appointed as a Justice of the Court of Appeal (again, not Sharia court) where he served for THIRTEEN (13) YEARS on the bench...before being sworn in as a Justice of the Supreme Court in 2007(again, not Sharia Court) where he has served the country for the last TWELVE (12) YEARS.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibrahim_Tanko_Muhammad

THE VERDICT: The new CJN is more than qualified to hold that office regardless of whatever some disgruntled semi-literate ignorant folks say...and he will remain in that office until Onnoghen is able to clear his soiled name if he ever does.

It is also important to note that Justice Tanko Mohammed is the natural successor to Onnoghen as he is the 2nd most senior Justice of the Supreme Court & Vice Chairman of the National Judicial Council (NJC).

P.S The way the "lawyer" in the video was wailing and screaming like a suffering piglet was enough indication that his rants would end up being as irrational & nonsensical as they did.

Abeg no mind those mumu. Someone who is even more educated than the most educated person in some people's local government yet they say he's a mere sharia judge.

He has a first degree in law, masters and even PhD in law yet they he's a mere sharia court judge. Maybe because they don't hear him being called His Lordship, Dr., -Alhaji, Chief Imam etc in one sentence before His name.

Even if the acting CJN is not qualified, you should ask PDP that appointed him as Judge of the Supreme Court some years back. Or did Buhari appoint him? Meanwhile the man is more than qualified for the position. Or maybe you think imPatience Jonathan should have been appointed instead? That is how the senseless PDP appointed Amina as INEC Commissioner and now, they want Buhari to sack her. You are all mad.

I already said that Atiku and his law friends would want to die on this man's case.

I guess using Onnoghen was their plan A and everything is shattered now.

For PDP information, Acting CJN is not just an Islamic scholar, he went through the normal process and claimed up to the position of the Justice of the Supreme Court.

Would it have been possible that he was just an ordinary scholar and didn't read or practice law? Some allegations makes me question the sanity of some people most especially coming from lawyers that should know better.

The truth is that all Nigerian Judges are corrupt.
The head of every organization in Nigeria is corrupt in one way or the other.
The reason people like me are worried here is that you don't suspend someone and replace him with your stooge few days to election.

What did he study for MSc and PhD?

How do you take a man who is a professional at giving religious considerations and verdicts as the CJN of the highest court in the land which is meant to be non biased. This sort of judge will definitely see the Koran as superceeding the constitution of d land.

Unfortunately, some of my igbo people have chosen a career in insulting and embaracing our race to the chagrin of some of us. They swore and are ready to die being hateful and defending the corrupts and criminals more than those directly affected.

That person embaracing himself may have just been told by one roadside gossip vendor that the acting Cjn was not qualified, instead of just using Google to do a simple check, he rather dashed out to the public and started disgracing himself.

This is becoming like the case of Jonathan When he lost the last election, some of my brothers highjacked the matter much more than the the Bayelsa people not to talk of the Niger delta region where he came from. Otherwise, how many people are aware the actual state of origin of Justice Onoghen? The actions of some of my people here in igbo have ended up confusing some to think that the man Onoghen is an igbo man. Because even his direct people have behaved in decorum and maturity that you hardly hear them supporting this clear case of crime committed by the suspended Onoghen.

please let this insult on ourselves stop. we are a very hard working race and should not redirect our God given energy towards vocalising and defending corruption which makes us a laughing stock among our equals.

Tanko mohammed towers above Onnoghen in academic qualifications and moral integrity . In fact, if educational attainment and character were to be the first considerations for appointment as Cjn, Tanko mohammed would have been appointed as substantive cjn at the time Onnoghen got it. You see how quota system worked against a northerner! The ipob guy in the video should be investigated thoroughly - they may even discover that his own certificate is from oluwole.
