The Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola yesterday fired Enoch Ajiboso, the commissioner for Agriculture and Cooperatives; and Sesan Olanrewaju, the special adviser on environment.

Opeyemi Bamidele, the commissioner for information and strategy, who made the announcement, described the incident as a “minor cabinet reshuffle”.

“I cannot at this moment [name those] who will be replacing them. These issues are left within the discretion of [the governor],” he said. When asked why the officials were sacked, Mr Bamidele said his mandate is only to make the announcement.

“Who serves, and who continues to serve are matters that lie within the discretion of His Excellency, Babatunde Fashola,” he said. “But I can assure you that these gentlemen have performed at their possible best. It is to be expected in a state like Lagos and it would not be anything unusual if more people leave the cabinet because it is a star-studded cabinet.”

However, there are indications that the two may have been dropped because of their political ambition. Mr Ajiboso and Mr Olanrewaju were both former local government chairmen in Agege and Somolu local government areas.
