The Army Chief also said that there will be no military escorts for politicians even as the army has been mandated to ensure that there is restriction of movement.

Not quite! Truth is, a careful and dispassionate study of Nigeria’s political history shows that brigandage cum ballot box snatching at a level the police are ill-equipped to handle is the bane of our election cycles. It is made possible by the use of police and military escorts to intimidate, maim and kill citizens so as to subvert the electoral process. Obasanjo et al are self professed apostles of do or die politics and are better reined in by withdrawing their military escorts who are bound to take orders from him while assigned to him! Now, he is cut to size!! A move by him to personally snatch the ballot box will see him shot at sight! Folks in critiquing Buhari for the order have failed to note that it cuts across board such that a member of his own party who attempts to snatch the ballot box also risks getting shot by the Military. Arguments to the effect that the Order will result in extra judicial killings will diminish in the face of the ineffectiveness overtime of the judicial process in punishing such acts post-elections! The Doctrine of necessity must be called into play here. Those who have said Buhari is lifeless will join him on Saturday where they insist on violence and ballot box snatching in their desperate bid to compromise the electoral process. We should let the loser lose fairly and the victor win acceptably.
