The fifteen of March is the 74th day of the year and 75th in leap years. Today we would love to think back on what have happened on this day. In the past years below are some notable records on those born on this very day, died on this day and some other event that has taken place.

Gaius Julius Caesar, Roman general, statesman and dictator died on this day in 44 BC at a session of the Senate. He died after an assassination maned by a number of 60 men after Casca gave the first thrust by the neck resulting to other multiple stabbing. Caesar died on his own blood.

Pope Zachary the 91st Roman Catholic pope forbade the traffic of slaves in Rome died after 10years and 110 days of his pontificate in the year 752 at the age of 72.

Isabella of Hainault, queen consort of France and the wife of Philip II also known as Philip Augustus who reigned as king in France from 1180 to 1223, died In 1190 at age 19 following complications at birth.

526 years ago in 1493 Christopher Columbus returns to Spain after his first trip to the Americas.

On this day, in the year 1638 an Emperor of the Chinese people by the name Shunzhi was born and he lived for 22years

In 1767 Andrew Jackson, American general, judge, and politician, who in later days became the 7th President of the United States of America from 1829 to 1837, was also born on the 15th of March.

The University of Toronto was founded in 1827.



In 1857 Christian Michelsen, Norwegian businessman and politician and 1st Prime Minister of Norway was born.

1875 Archbishop of New York John McCloskey is named the first cardinal in the United States.

The Scottish Catholic hierarchy was broken off in 1603 but was restored back on the 15th of March 1878

Back in 1985 José Sarney becomes the first civilian President of Brazil after 21 years of military rule, he took office after President elect Tancredo Neves became seriously ill the day before.

In 1990 Mikhail Gorbachev was elected as the first President of the Soviet Union

In 2005, Shoji Nishio, Japanese martial artist died at the age of 77


Red Storey, Canadian football player and referee died in 2006 at age of 88 after a long illness.

The 15th of March 2011 marked the Beginning of the Syrian Civil War, today marks it the 8th year of the multi sided armed conflicts.


In 2012 Bernardino González Ruíz, Panamanian physician and politician and President of Panama was the last surviving Panamanian President from the era prior to the 1968 military coup. He died at the age of 101, three days of national mourning was held.

Booth Gardner who was an American businessman politician and the 19th Governor of Washington died in 2013.
