A little history about the man El-Zakzaky .

The movement began with a Shia Muslim university activist, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, who is said to have become so impressed with the 1979 Iranian Revolution that he wanted one at home. Later, Zakzaky went to Iran, ultimately becoming a Shia cleric. At home he became the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria and turned it into a vehicle for conditioning and gaining followers in the 1990s. As a result of his activities, millions have converted to Shia Islam in a country once with hardly any Shia population.
Shia Islam was "almost unknown" in Nigeria until the 1980s, when Ibrahim Zakzaky introduced Shia Islam. Zakzaky's gained a following among those disenchanted with the political and religious establishment

Attack and Persecution of the Shittes Sect
in 2007 - The state government of Sokoto reacted to the rise of Shia Islam in the state by taking such measures as demolishing the Islamic Center

In 2014 -  the Zaria Quds Day massacres took place, leaving 35 dead.

In 2015 - the Zaria massacre during which 348 Shia Muslims were killled by the Nigerian Army.

In April 2018 -  clashes broke out as Nigerian police fired teargas Shia protesters who were demanding the release of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, who had been detained for two years with no trial. The clashes left at least one protester dead and several others injured. Further, Nigerian police detained at least 115 protesters.

In October 2018 - Nigerian military killed at least 45 peaceful Shia protesters. After soldiers opened fire, they targeted protesters fleeing the chaos. Many of the injured were shot in the back or legs.

July 2019 - Protests erupts at the nations capital as the group now bolder than ever confront security forces to a show down

What led to the arrest and incarceration  of Shitte leader El-Zakzaky?
Saturday, 12 December 2015,  Shiite followers of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria attempted to assassinate Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, Shite members barricaded the road Mr. Buratai’s motorcade was passing to pay homage on the Emir of Zazzau, and also attend a review parade by 73 Regular Recruit Intake at the Nigerian Army Depot in Zaria.  The sect numbering hundreds carrying dangerous weapons, barricaded the roads with bonfires, heavy stones and tyres, refused all entreaties to disperse and then started firing and pelting the convoy with dangerous objects”.

The troops responsible for the safety and security of the Chief of Army Staff on hearing explosion and firing were left with no choice than to defend him and the convoy at all cost as well as open up the barricaded road for law abiding citizens. This is in line with the Nigerian Army Rules of Engagement and Code of Conduct.  The army said the sect carried out the attempt on Mr. Buratai’s life on the instructions of Ibrahim El-zakzaky, the leader of the Shiite group.

At least 348 civilians were killed, with 347 bodies secretly buried by the army in a masse grave and the Ieader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria,  El-Zakzaky was arrested by the Nigerian Army with his wife

The Shiite movement is a large group. They have thousands of owners or maybe millions in Nigeria. So they have numbers.

They have not been treated fairly, the Leader is still in detention against the wish of the court.

The group has strong support from Iran. That country called Iran is very rich and prepared for any form of "show down". They make billions from Crude oil.

We all know that the Muslim majority in the North do not like the Shiites. They are not best of friends.

The Shiites have their faults. We all know this.

However the Shiites have not been treated fairly.

Two wrongs don't make it right
Where is El Zak Zaky?

Government should be more sensitive when dealing with their so called enemies or opposition.

This is how insurgency starts. Remember how Boko Haram started too.

My prediction

If Government is unable to " receive sense" these Shiites will pick up arms and become another Boko Haram in the next few years.

When Nigerians react to this issue of Shia Islam from human right perspective, I feel sorry for the country. Propagation and spread of Shia Islam in Nigeria can lead to many things that are difficult to mention.

For students of history, the perennial hatred among the Arab countries is as a result of what? Despite the fact that they are all predominantly Muslims, they still kill each other and wage war at every slight provocation.

The fact remains that majority of world Muslims are Sunnis and the doctrines of Shia is slightly different which is believed to be deviation from the way Islam was practiced by the Prophet.

It could have been better managed when it had not gained prominence, unfortunately we lack such intelligence in our dear country.

Leaving them to spread isn't that good for the country and crushing them by force can lead to serious internal war. Mosquitoes have perched on delicate pendulum, it requires patience and wisdom.

Very trashy group of people.....

Its hightime Southerners mind our progressive business ..

Even if you release Zakzaki another Violence would change name and spring up in the North.

Its Metasine crisis of the 80s Jos crisis 90s Sharia crisis of earlier 2000s Boko haram of 2010s now Iswap shiite and herdsmen bandits... this Dunce needs Obasanjo style of cleansing or total neglect..

Everything a Southern Youth dedicates.his life to is Good life and wealth wether through Education or Crime or Rituals the just want good life..

As for many Northern dagger carrying youth its violence, fight, backward politics, political manipulation, land grabbing and more Non ambitious Poverty multiplying lifestyle

We need to mind our own progress as Southerners... how many times have you seen Northern youth comment on Life changing National Issues Online? But if it was Python Dance or RUGA they troop out of hiding, we also need to forget about them and not let them drag us into their calamity...

Which peaceful? They are doing all these commotion so as to attract sympathy, funding and terrorist training from Iran. They know what they are doing. They are not acting alone. These people are playing out the Islamic script that the Arab terrorists have given them.

Whether government releases their leader or not, they will turn to terrorists groups. It's only a matter of time. Boko haram also started from islamic teachings. But God is on the throne, let them turn to Shiites terrorists, they and Boko Haram will be killing themselves. Even in the Arab world, Shiites and Sunnis are at war with themselves. They only unite when they want to attack Israel, and then go back to killing themselves. The blood the thousands of the innocents they have wasted, non-Muslims, is pushing them to turn into another terror group, then they will start killing themselves.

not really sure if the write up is objective enough to make us draw a reasonable conclusion but questions need to be asked about the kind of relationship that existed between the man and our president.
