Am hoping 2 clock about 200k miles on her before I retire her someday.

Have had the chance 2 replace her with a W203 but they are not as rugged as they use 2 be. So be nxt year hopefully a big V8 or V6 coupe for the Highway. then a small 4cylinder for everyday running.(Not jap)
what list of cars do you have in mind for the v8s or 6 cylinders...(coupe or sedan)
for me-
clk 430
clk 350
BMW 330i (e46/e90)...
2006 infiniti g35 6mt
1997 BMW m3...
2003 BMW 540i.

ziccoit:

The car enters a limp home mode, gets out of this when the engine is put off and the car moves normally when restarted. This tells us the problem may not be a major problem. The limp home mode, in this case, is protecting the car against a certain major damage which may not be related to the gearbox. Pls, ask your mechanic to scan the car as the first step towards arriving at solution. Don't allow him to touch anything until the car is scanned.

Pls ziccoit, do u know a good benz mechanic.....

Your car yet to be fixed? Sorry about that. Where are you staying, Lagos?

@Smartchoice, pls come to our brother aid here. I guessed you directed a Nairalander to a MB specialist in Lagos not too long ago.

Btw, how have you gone with getting the car fixed? Hope you have not allowed them to damage the car more?

halohs: Hello Good pple,

I have an issue with my Benz ML 430 (1999/2000) and my mechanic has been battling with it without coming up with a solution.

The problem has to do with the gear. Here is how it started. I was driving and after about 20 mins, i came to a stop due to traffic with the gear still in Drive. When it came time to accelerate, the car didnt move...it was as if the gear was in Neutral. This continued for sometime. Then i put the engine off. After about 5 mins, i started the car, put the gear in Drive and it moved. The problem comes up when the car comes to a stop and when i stop and allow the engine to cool off a bit, it moves again.

Has anybody experienced this or does someone have any idea what the cause of the problem is?

Responses will be well appreciated.

PS: This is a nice and enlightening thread....keep it up.

Thanks

Hello house, please help a friend out, my friend recently bought a Mercedes Benz A160 2000 model, but the careless guy who delivered it to his door step carelessly drove it from Lagos Wharf down to Lokoja without changing the transmission fluid, which now makes the car to stick to only one gear, refused to change to next gear, the transmission is an automatic transmission, please how do we get this issue fixed? then how much does this gear cost in case we want to replace it completely? please house.
NB: Please anyone who is willing to help can drop his/her phone number, i don't mind calling, Siena, Trac, Auhason, Ikenna351, Smartchoice, Youngboss, etc. Also the car is showing ESP BAS on the dash board, please am waiting for your quick response please.

@smartchoice

Thanks for sending me Chibuzor's contact, i've been privileged to meet with him in person and i must say knowledge about Benz is something else. After providing him with symptoms am experiencing, he advised i replaced the rear-and-center exhaust which i had earlier worked-on as a result of a burst on it.

Will have my tank refilled and watch its performance.

Thank you once again.

Siena: @Labiyemmy: Long time bro, how's the Navi business doing?  smiley

As per your head unit. I'd say yes, very likely your tech has blown the final output stage of your Mercedes head unit, or the rear amplifier. The rear amplifier is built by Bose, and as it's a factory-fit option, just like that used by Audi, to power an external sub, means it's not straight forward, as would be the case with an aftermarket system. There is an aftermarket harness / adapter from www.kufatec.de that simplifies the installation.

Though, before condemning the system, have the unit interrogated via the OBD port. You need to go into Comfort / Convenience mode, it's very possible you can reset the output stage, if it's not blown, and merely shut-down. I'd say it's blown though. Let's know how you get on.

au.hanson:

You mention PH, thats my area. If i had seen this earlier on maybe i could have offered to squeeze out time to go there and sort out the issue for you free of charge on a saturday/sunday like this, tho i'm not a mechanic, i have done it for close friends before. Anyways , its not too late , you can send me pms against next weekend if that will be ok by you?

Hello guys, I want to really appreciate the effort of one of you who went and fix my my c180 MB on Sunday free of charge, despite his busy Schedule. I didn't know Nigeria still have people like this. Thankyou very much bro.

I am so honored to appreciate him openly in this forum and to state what he did for your information. How i wish he would come out to narrate the steps taken by him to solve such problem for me , because he has been so wonderful according to my mum:

He was able to diagnose the car down to the level of low resistance wires around and via the ignition coils. Infact, despite the fact that the car ECU could not link to his diagnostic tool, he absolutely tested the wires and rewire them back, the main culprit .The car had a multiple problem. He went a step further and replace the keys,as the key was also burnt. He replace the Bendix at the spot as well as even detected another unnoticeable fault with cylinder 2 valve. He actually did a compression test and found out that cylinder 2 was shutdown, according to him probably, because of the misfire, the ecu detected and shutdown that cylinder to avoid damage to it. the valves are really having issues hence will need a rework.

Now to crown it all the vehicle was restarted by him and my mum is using it again. She confesses that the car performances is better than before. Although he caution that the valve issue in the cylinder 2 should be tackle sometime soon by a good mechanic, that he could even do it for me if he is chance again by the upper week, but that he can only do that in his place, of which i am very comfortable with.

This guy is a human MB manual. He went on to explain that it is a big task to remove the cylinder head and replace or rework the valves, seats etc as appropriate by some engineering workshop. How i wish he will come up to speak for himself and detail his approach for our knowledge.

Thanks Hanson. the car will be brought to you only at your convenience for the remaining task. I dont want anybody to touch it. Thanks once again.
