A former wife of Jeff Bezos, MacKenzie Bezos has committed to giving away at least half her estimated $36 billion fortune to charity.

Bezos, a novelist and one of the original forces behind Amazon, announced that she has joined the Giving Pledge, a global initiative whose roster includes Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Mark Zuckerberg, Michael Bloomberg and Robert F. Smith.

The donation comes just months after she finalized her divorce from Amazon founder and chief executive Jeff Bezos.

most of the so called charity funds are used to pay expenses like staff salaries/allowances and running cost for the NGOs they donate to, only few actually get to the poor, so most of the poor are still poor

there is a guilt complex/white savior complex and pressure from society and the press that if you amass wealth, you should give back to the poor or you are a bad person. almost a 100 billion USD if i am correct have been donated to charity but the world is still the same thing

I won't say the world is totally the same, it would be worse without charity, cause these charity NGOs have provided a lot of relief materials to a lot of troubled countries it has provided food support medical support to those who need it most, I think charity is not really a fight against poverty , but an aid to those who need it most

my opinion is this, most of what you mentioned is the duty of the govt of any country to do not charity organisation.

anyway, there are charities organisation formed to eradicate poverty, many of them follow the UN Millenium developmental goals which they never achieve and there are charities founded to give aid and support to those who need it but many of them aren't doing it..many of them exploit Africans to raise fund.

i still remember there is one UK charity organisation that still uses Ethiopia drought crisis of 1993 as a means to get fund from the UK people, they show staving kids with flies all over their body, dam, when these guys get the funds, they dont do anything rather they pay salaries and start another big bureaucracy

Well it's a corrupt system, if not those charity funds would have made a big impact on the life's of the poor,
But still the rich shouldn't be discouraged from giving, it might not achieve its 100% purpose but 30 to 50% achievement is better than none , thanks bro

It's the corrupt system is preventing the impacts of charitable organizations but still, you can't underestimate the influence of these organizations. It's not something one can merely dismiss as useless.
