Hypocrisy is the trade mark of the Ibos we have known that for ages, if federal structure is what is the issue, then support that UNN should be named after MKO. You guys are only arrogant, the Yorubas are wiser than you and adopted "Ebele" trying to play to the gallery with the Yorubas

The Prison Trustee Model Of African Administration: Case Study Niggeria[sic)

In 1963, during the era of independence, the Organization of African Union agreed to a policy of inviolable borders, which dictated that colonial-era boundaries were to be upheld, with one caveat.

It is this same outdated decree by African imperialist disguised as freedom fighters that oppressive states like Nigeria has deployed over the years to re-echo the non-negotiable stance of a "united" one Nigeria.

Reviewing the caveat on maintaining colonial borders, we can also deduce from history, that the African imperialist was only interested in maintaining the status quo.

The African imperialist appealed to morality on the part of the European and to his fellow natives a false sense of patriotism- Africa for Africans was more a racist plot used by African imperialist to rally support from the natives to oust the colonial masters.

With the exit of the colonial masters, the African imperialist transformed himself to a supreme dictator. It was thus no surprise that the gathering of African despot will agree to support each other to maintain the colonial estate they were handed on a platter of gold by the European.
Since independence era, African countries have been competing among themselves to roll out despots and repressive authoritarian rule and the few rights the average African enjoys was not in anyway by the magnanimity of their leaders and governments but by Western and European human rights groups and govts.

Africans and their leaders have justified their brutal tribal wars just like that of the Nigerian civil war as an African affair that should not bother the European. We have read of how the Nigerian govt and field officers defended the genocide on the Igbos as a necessary evil to keep the European map intact and they were quick to both cite the 1963 AU caveat and that of other African imperialist leaders support in keeping Nigeria one.

The so-called founding fathers of Nigeria where more interested in a Nigerization policy where the natives continued the imperial status-quo. This is akin to what you have in virtually all prisons across the world where the real powers are not vested on the wardens but the prisoners themselves. In prisons in Nigeria this model of indirect but direct administration is well established. And just like in the real world Nigeria, only the most brutal, viscious and hardened criminals get to become powerful trustees within those walls.
The western powers never cut off the strings rather, they have outsourced the administration of your fake nation state in the hand of the most brutal and least accountable individuals. This serves the western powers in two folds; firstly, it absolves them of any responsibility as they can maximize their profit takings without batting any conscience from the brutal exploitation since they are not directly involved in managing your shithole. Secondly, it creates for economic and financial exigency since issues like environmental laws and regulations, human rights, etc can be done away with. This is why the west will seek the most selfish and least accountable individual to rule you. Just like your average prison warden who requires prison trustees to keep other prisoners in check!

If you blindly support a one Nigeria then you support the despot and native imperialist continued oppression of you, your family and entire populace.

The greatest evil about Nigeria is that it is a false nation and to be patriotic to a myth is to deny reality

They would have protested! I dont know why you guys are not always happy about anything Yoruba! June 12 was declared as democracy day, you guys started crying, if indeed Abiola is a national figure, then it should not be something at his backyard. The airport in Lagos has a name of a Kano man, the one in Abuja is named after an Anambra man, the square in Lagos, named after a Bauchi man, therefore, the stadium in Abuja named after an Ogun man is apt. Moreover, that man was regarded as the pillar of sports in Africa but most us are just being exposed to information of late and as such argue blindly.

Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

Prince Tony Momoh, a former Minister of Information on Wednesday said former President Goodluck Jonathan reduced the late MKO Abiola to an ethnic champion by renaming the University of Lagos (UNILAG) which is located in the South- West after him.

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Momoh who commended President Muhammadu Buhari for renaming the National Stadium, Abuja after Abiola said former President Olusegun Obasanjo was begged to name the stadium after Abiola when it was built in 2003 but he refused.

He said “I congratulate Nigerians and all of us who have always believed that Abiola was entitled to be remembered and renaming the National Stadium Abuja after him as Moshood Abiola National Stadium is a befitting monument to his memory. The stadium was built during the tenure of Obasanjo in 2003”.

“There was appeal by Nigerians to Obasanjo to name the stadium after MKO Abiola, but he refused to do it for reasons best known to him”.

“Jonathan on his part had an opportunity to name a monument after Abiola and he did by changing the name of the University of Lagos (UNILAG). By doing this, he was localising the status of Abiola and in a way, ethnicising it. UNILAG is located in the South-West which is populated by the Yoruba which is Abiola’s tribe”.

“So, it was inevitable that renaming UNILAG after Abiola will be interpreted as portraying Abiola as an ethnic champion, when as a matter of fact; Abiola won a national or presidential election in which all Nigerians voted. He even defeated Bashir Tofa his opponent in his polling booth” he said.

What is the big deal in naming. It can be renamed later. When we decide to leave the main issue of development and focus on irrelevant discussions

I think you need the advice more than I do! The Yorubas are comfortable with that. Ojukwu is your hero, we are less concerned about what is named after him, but then we are fine with the stadium and the fact that you can't do any official transaction on a June 12 again just to celebrate Abiola, a man from the tribe you love to hate. So sweet!

The calibre of people around GEJ never advised him well. Even if he was a dunce, his hordes of advisers ought to have told him it was a bad idea to rename UNILAG.

National figures are honoured with symbolic things such as currencies, popular national monuments, stadia, airports and not higher institutions from the person backyard.

Apart from naming universities after Zik, Ahmadu Bello and Awolowo, they were further dignified by putting their names on different denominations and naming airports after them respectively.

We already had Moshood Abiola Poly, why naming him after an institution again?

PMB did the right thing.
Wrong! Anyway, there is MKO stadium in Abeokuta. Aso Rock would have been better.

Re: June 12: How Jonathan Reduced MKO Abiola To Local Champion – Tony Momoh by Olumyco(m): 2:01pm On Jun 13, 2019
See what many of us here dont understand here is that changing a university name is not easy. University of Lagos is one of the first generation universities in the country... so someone cannot just change it like that around this time. If the name is to be changed, they should have changed it in the 80s... University of Ife was changed in 1987... and looking at that, one can see that it is better at that time than changing it around this time. The more a school ages, the more the number of achievements, number of Alumni, number of programmes and so on. So changing a University name is best when the University is still young or at intermediate level and not when it has fully grown to be big with international reputation. Like ABU, the University was renamed at the start off of the school, a year after the legislative passed the law that established the school. AAUA was not long before it was renamed. We should understand that renaming a University comes with a high cost. The school gate, documents of the school, website and so on unlike other monuments. We should also understand that a university is like a business. The brand name too counts. A school who has made name with a particular name is not suitable for change like that. And I think there was something I learnt that they want to stop the changing of a university name to people's name in the country. Well I dont know of it is true. But the fact is that any school more than 30 years or who is among top 5 in a country should be spared of renaming.
Naming a monument or any big thing within a University is better like naming Lecture Theatres, Libraries, Hostels etc., is better.

So in all the rejection of the renaming of Unilag by the Alumni and the Students was in good order. They understood what it would cost them. Thesame way that of Unilag was rejected is thesame way that of UI, UNN would be rejected. Even Uniben, Unilorin, Unijos and co too would be rejected. These universities are too old to be renamed. Renaming should have happened to these universities earlier than now when the cost would be lower somehow if at all they want to change their names.

So that's it.

Thanks.

Yes it's not a crime to be an opposition simply because it's matter of choice, Igbos' votes against Abiola didn't deny him victory and still destiny disfavoured him to be president and today he's honoured with national holiday and National Stadium Abuja named after him.

The writer only picture the history of political rivalry between Igbos and Yorubas in unpleasant way and there's a period when Igbos voted for Obasanjo who's a Yoruba man, Yoruba also did that to Jonathan in 2011 by voting for him massively, so there are histories and circumstances that surrounded them.

As you're one of the reasons Igbo Christians are getting undeserve insult on Nairaland Forum because of mixing political issues with religion by abusing Muslims as if you're religion fanatic as it's very surprising for you to inculcate religion into this matter because it eroded all your points and fact, it would have been better for you to reply the writer and correct him or abuse him alone rather than insulting Muslims as if all Muslims aware of the writer's action.

Naming great UNILAG after Abiola does not make to be a local champion in my opinion. Thant's one of biggest University in Nigeria. Abuja National Stadium is good but the stadium is rarely use. All our recent matches were not played in Abuja.

Success is relative, to some being success is having all the money in the world while to some, the moment they can discharge their responsibilities as at when due they are good to go.
