It is just plain insecurity maybe you would belong to those set of men who enjoy policing their wives.

Hanging out can mean different reasons; catching up after not seeing in a long time, just for drinks, to get away from the house, to spend time with someone that's not her husband, there is nothing wrong with that, to your question;
