Abuja bombing: My story –Jonathan

Amid accusations and counter-accusations over the suspected masterminds of the twin-bomb explosions that rocked Abuja, the Federal Capital last Friday, President Goodluck Jonathan has painstakingly rendered his account of the sordid experience.

Speaking through his Facebook page, the President who also expressed his appreciation for the concerns shown by Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora, since the tragedy occured, reiterated government’s determination to unmask the people behind the criminal act, and bring them to justice.
Excerpts:

“My dear friends on facebook, It is with a heavy heart that I read your comments and mails with respect to the sad events that occurred on the day we were celebrating 50 years of our existence as a nation and discussing the need to chart a new course for our future.

“Although the security agencies put in significant efforts to pre-empt the attacks, it is very sad that lives of innocent Nigerians were lost to this heartless act against the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Again, I offer my condolences to the families of the victims in particular and the nation in general. “Although this is somewhat a new experience for us, especially as bombings had never taken place in the Federal Capital Territory before last Friday’s incident, the security agencies have been instructed to leave no stone unturned in securing lives and property.

“I am being briefed regularly and I am confident that the agencies are on top of the situation. I implore Nigerians to go about their normal businesses and should not be intimidated or become paranoid over the cowardly act of a few Nigerians who obviously do not have the love of this country at heart.

“Dear friends, if the aim of the attackers is to create a sense of insecurity and panic across the nation in order to advance their narrow interests, Nigerians will stand up to them and make it clear that they cannot be intimidated.
“Nigeria is bigger than any individual or any collection of individuals. Nobody can hold a country of 150 million people to ransom anymore. The interest of a few conceited, ill-motivated individuals cannot be bigger than our national aspirations.

“I want to report to you that the security agencies are working round the clock in collaboration with other agencies within and outside the country to fish out the master minds and executors of the attacks and subsequently bring them to justice. “I want to assure Nigerians that blackmail and intimidation will not stop the Federal Government from doing the right thing. Whoever is found culpable will face the full weight of the law. I have requested the security agencies to do their work for our citizens will accept nothing less than justice. We would be failing the past, present and future generations of Nigerians if we do not get to the root of this dastardly act and seek justice the way it should be done in a civilised society such as ours.

“It is unfortunate that an unprecedented national tragedy of this nature has been politicised by people whose only interest is what they can get from the country and not what the country can get from them. They specialise in playing one part of the country against the other and riding on sectional sentiments to promote their narrow ambitions. I believe that Nigerians have grown beyond this parochial mentality.

To prove to you that their interests are personal and not for the people they claim to represent you will notice that while this administration has spent considerable time and resources as well as focused attention on the recent floods in Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi and Jigawa states and the Cholera epidemic in certain parts of Nigeria as well as the lead poisoning that has consumed 400 children in Zamfara state, these so called concerned people have not been known to address any of these issues nor offer a word of succour to the victims. This is irrefutable proof that their only focus is how to get power and not the wellbeing of the long suffering people of Nigeria whom I have sworn to Almighty God to protect.

“At this critical time, we should be mourning the dead and praying for the families left behind. What they need at this sad hour is not politics but compassion and empathy. “Finally, the Federal Government will do everything possible to share in the pains of the bereaved and the injured. We will give the best medical care possible to the injured. We recognise that nothing can compensate for the loss of a loved one. But we offer our shoulders to the bereaved in this moment of need.

“I want to assure you my friends, brothers and sisters on facebook that the Federal Government is very much aware of its most fundamental responsibility to its citizens: THE DEFENCE OF YOUR RIGHT TO LIFE, THE PROTECTION OF YOUR LIBERTY AND PROPERTY. On this mission, we cannot afford to fail. We will give our utmost, indeed our very best for the peace, unity and progress of Nigeria. May God Almighty bless Nigeria and stand with us.”

Great Speech. He should have made this on national television instead of facebook. GEJ seems to be always mis-informed on information disemination. He made the same mistake on Friday, absolving MEND of responsibilities almost immediately after the wake of the bombings.

I hope the Northern Leaders Forum and its evil minded members have access to this speech. They are busy asking for resignation of the president while people in their zone are dying in hundreds. I wish that Ciroma of a man could be stoned to death.

On this note, nobody can fault GEJ, the so called elders dont give a hoot about our brothers in the north.
Personally, I am getting less enthusiastic about GEJ due to his gaffe, I think he should overhaul his back-office staff. President Clinton reportedly had a team that briefs him on any issue that may be raised by his critics and they tutor him on the best line of response to those issues. If it now happens that an issue is raised in public for which he does not have a prepared response, this team will be in big trouble.

He also needs to attend a Finishing School, or they should arrange an In-house stuff for him.

How come the quality, eloquence and value of GEJ's speech on facebook is a far-cry from his hoarse, aimless and distracted speeches and comments in real-life. that guy sounds like a drunk horse on cheap paraga with his ill-advised unguarded comments and emotional swings at each step. GEJ is a regular political retard. Divine Appointment my-backside  angry

Sincere Nigerians know where this is all coming from:

1. Jonathan was a man that came into power without the manipulations of these elites.

2. He went ahead and pick a freshman as his VP, signifying a new era of leadership.

3. from the way and manner they have handled the distribution of petroleoum products and power in the past 5 months shows that they are determined to change the way of doing things in NIgeria.

4. They elites whom have built their empires aroung evil manipulations suddenly become alarmed and were forced to unite against Jonathan.

5.But the avaerage Nigerian is tired of having these old faces being recycled as leaders and have decided to show support to Jonathan whom they see as
a God-sent.

6. The way he is going, and the support he has the elite can not defeat him in a free and fair election, thus they are alarmed.

7. They push zoning so they can have an easy sail, but it could not go through.

8. Goodluck seem to have chemated them on every side, and they do not have facts to blackmail him.

9. so they resorted to hiring terrorist in a bid to distabilise his govt and make him unpopular.

10. Little did they know that the pit they dig for Goodluck would be the same that will swallow them

11. Now they are close to bieng silent, but they do not want to go without a fight.

12. Little did they know that what they meant for evil was to be "the blast before the bliss" because soon NIgeria shall be free from her tomentors.

Honestly i support u on the bolded.  A Public office holder applies highest level of diplomacy in answering, reporting or otherwise in a sensitive issue such as this, this i noticed has been lacking in most of GEJ's Speeches.  I wonder what those PA's are actually doing allowing him make "insinuations" in such sensitive issues as this.

As much as I agree to most of the points raised by GEJ, yet non of the leaders from all the regions have worked for the interest of the masses, so why facing the north.  What if the endproduct of the invistigation indicts political wigs from other regions?

At this time answering every word for word is not important but result!

Nigerians,

Are you not aware the most difficult task in governance is to pursue a transparent course for the people and not succumbing to the selfish plots of the elite, who poses to be powerful.

You must know that GEJ is God sent and such persons passes thru a lot of challenges, conspiracies and terrorism. However, with the support of we all and praying for God's wisdom, He will succede.

I was delighted that for once a Nigerian at that position is bold to declare the suspects and still determined to protect his oath. My ibo brothers could have succumbed.

Remember the killing of such American Presidents like: Lincoln, John F Keneddy e.t.c is because the want America to control their money flow. Some of u may not be aware that a family called the Rothschild prints American Currency and charges interest. That country needs God intervention because this family controls almost half of the wealth of the world and are deadly.

So expect similar occurence in Nigeria from so called dictators and Nigeria civil war heroes grin who can never see the new trend of world advancement just former minister of FCT; El rufai pointed out.

My fellow countrymen, we are either marching to the promise land or another call for divison if the heart of these dictators remains as stony.

May Almighty God help us.

Yes Sammy I read you. It is called Stockholm syndrome. The hostages have been tortured for so long that they loose sense of who their adversary is. They then feel snugging upto their captors would bring a relief. Of course if I feel a headache I can solve the problem by chopping off my finger, the bigger pain will neutralize the smaller one. As a matter of fact the military used it successfully for years. They would take over and seek the best civilians to run things so as to placate us. We now know better. They increase salaries with one hand and steal it with the other. They are here again pandering to some sense of insecurity amongst the populace.

I am indeed surprised at some comments here. I can not simply understand some tortured soul complaining day and night about the country and its leadership yet choses to believe we should remain in the captivity of some northern led monarchy. For me true power shift is one that excludes everyone that has actively brought this nation to its knees. We want to see new things, by new people with a new agenda. And while I am not deluded that enemies of freedom will roll over and die they do not have to take us with themselves. We know the northerners who can express their fears on the recent tragedy and we would listen but Ciroma and Yakassai, haba.

Good! Jonathan has always been trying his very best to make things work out well for we, NIGERIANS, but it is unfortunate that despite all his effort, some so called politicians and head of community in certain part of the country always condem him. They have forgotten what he has done in their zone. They have never shown concern to their community members but instead, they prefer to collect money( OWO KOKU LO KARUN LO) from the so called politicians and support them to rubbish the government.Well, either there is bombo blast or not, we all no that no good leaders will be happy seeing his people dieing.
Look at them, the next thing they will say is that Jonathan should resign or be impeached because of their selvish ambition.YOU HAVE MONEY, GO AND TAKE GOOD CARE OF THOSE BEGGER WHO ARE LITTERING THE ROAD and STOP RUBISHING THIS MAN'S ADMINISTRATION.I DON TELL YOU THE TRUTH.MONEY IS NOT ALL THINGS, SO HELP US GOD, (AMEN).

hmmmn, majority said the same of Shagari then Buhari/Idiagbon, the same of IBB, many hated Ernest Shonekan and roundly praised Sani Abacha when he came into power (remember the consensus candidature of Abacha adopted by all parties grin, I still remember the lot of our politicians and citizenry who roundly accused MKO of being a drug Baron and praised OBJ as the man God called to rule from Prison, Yaradua (RIP) was praised as the prudent governor who will make sure corruption was stagnated and progress of his 7-point Agenda lift us from the economic doldrums of the OBJ/Atiku legacy, Alas, we all know how we wished him dead (already) for his lethargic pace and clueless political mien. Jboy was also praised to high-heavens as the man who never fought for anything but got everything. (inspite of EFCC probes levelled against his wife) GEJ is divinely appointed by God himself (Nigerians never fail to amaze me). let us wait and see (as usual) how we will all hound GEJ out of office (if he gets there) in the next 4 years,  grin

GEJ means well for this nation and represents fresh thinking.
This is a supposition. Obasanjo meant "well" for Nigeria in 2003, that was why he was voted in. Never trust naija politicians. They would stoop so low when soliciting for support. Once they are elected, they become gods.
We are only hoping that GEJ should not follow the path of the past leaders. We are can authoritatively say that GEJ HAS GOOD INTENTIONS. We are yet to subject him into test.
No body should dare tell me about his performance regarding fuel availability. It is only over time that we can actually affirm and give due praise. Yar' adua promised to declare emergency in the power sector. The first two months in office, every body believed him. But what happened afterwards?

TIME WILL TELL!

GEJ lacks political wit and tact. Making speeches on facebook is talking to whom? He should at this stage be seen to be uniting Nigerians and assuring them of their safety, and acting to ensure justice is done. After all  many of those northern  leaders he is criticising are from his own PDP party and are not doing worse than the other leaders from the other zones.

He is to me a man who is after power and not able to honour what members of PDP all had agreed upon as a balacnced way of sharing power. He was a sole beneficiary of the zoning agreement that brought Yaradua and himself to power. If the  PDP had agreed to share power among themselves using a zoning system, jonathan should be the one asking for this agreemetn to e honoured and forget about personal interest ; he can always contest in the after four years. Nigerians have the choice to make from other parties if they wanted a new fresh southerner to rule them. Jonathan is not a man of honour.
