The Real Reason Atiku Is NOT Giving Up Despite Slim Chances At The Tribunal
It’s been four months since the 2019 Presidential election that produced Muhammadu Buhari of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner and Atiku Abubakar of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the first runner up, yet the latter has refused to give up.

Atiku believes his mandate was stolen by Buhari, which was the reason he had petitioned the Election Petitions Tribunal citing electoral malpractices, with a plea for him to be declared winner instead.

While the tribunal has commenced hearing of the case, observers believe Atiku has slim chances of having his desire granted; take, for instance, the recent move by the court of appeal reversing an earlier judgment ordering that Atiku and the PDP be allowed to inspect INEC server and other electoral materials.

In spite of these signs, Atiku Abubakar has refused to give up. He remains adamant there would be light for him at the end of the tunnel; a hope he’s passed onto his supporters.

Atiku is not oblivious of the fact that the odds are not in his favour, but why is the ex-Vice President oozing this much optimism?

Why has he refused to give up?

While the motivational speakers would express, in the circumstance, as they say in football: “it is not over until it is over,” Realists would tell you otherwise.

There is indeed more to just being hopeful in this case. Atiku is executing calculated political moves that would benefit him in the long run, while also hoping for a miracle at the tribunal.

If you followed the timeline of events upon the conclusion of the last presidential poll, you would have noticed the trend; every step has been well calculated, not just to aid his cause at the attempt of reclaiming a stolen mandate, there is indeed more to that.

At the moment INEC declared Buhari winner on February 26, 2019, for polling 15,191,847 votes, as against Atiku’s 11,262,978, a lot of people waited for a repeat of the famous 2015 congratulatory call from the then runner up, Goodluck Jonathan to Muhammadu Buhari. They waited in vain. There was no call, instead, Atiku immediately rejected the polls’ outcome.

A day after results were announced, Atiku called a world press conference to announced official rejection of the outcome. Atiku was quoted as saying the following: “On Election Day, we saw the implementation of grand theft of the people’s will. I am not one for hyperbole so I will just let the facts speak for themselves”.

The announcement was timely as it served as renewed hope that resonated amongst his supporters who needed a direction as regard what next. These were supporters, like Atiku, who was determined to end the reigns of Buhari; left disappointed because the hopes were high for a positive outcome that never came to fruition.

Atiku, on March 19, less than a month after the polls, officially filed a petition against President Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent Electoral Commission, (INEC), citing many irregularities, including but not limited to Buhari’s WAEC certificate – that has been a subject of controversy; Buhari’s qualification to stand for the election, not stratifying the majority of lawful votes statute, Non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, and Malpractices.

This was followed by another move by Atiku, in his relentless effort to prove INEC committed a foul by announcing the wrong winner, this time, The PDP candidate released his own version of the results proving he actually won. Atiku claimed the “unique MAC address and Microsoft product ID” where the results were allegedly obtained, matched that of the INEC Server.

Even when INEC had denied the outright existence of any server and court failed to grant access to Atiku and PDP to inspect this sever, the opposition leader still remained adamant he would fight to finish.

In addition to all these moves, Atiku has also continued to react to diplomatic issues as though he’s the president Federal Republic of Nigeria. From releasing official statements in response to the coup attempt in Sudan; security challenges in Nigeria, his own democracy day speech, to congratulating heads of state of other countries.

Atiku knows exactly what he’s doing and the reason is not solely to help his cause at the tribunal – there is more to it.

Atiku understands how difficult it will prove
for him to regain this much support and confidence reposed in him by millions of Nigerians, hence, will do everything to protect it.

The former Vice President at the moment remains the leader of the opposition party and it’s obvious he’s not ready to give up the position easily.

He is also looking ahead to 2023 and understand how important it is to remain relevant so as to have little or no opposition a regards the party’s ticket in the next dispensation.

Imagine what would have happened if Atiku made that call to Buhari on February 26?

Imagine what would have happened if Atiku did not go to court?

Imagine what would have been happening if Atiku is not renewing these hopes by each passing day?

Imagine what will be happening if Atiku decides to go on exile?

If Atiku didn’t do or not currently doing what’s doing, he would have been long forgotten and stronger powers would have emerged in PDP.

Recall what followed the post-Jonathan PDP, Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike, at a time, held the party to ransom.

Atiku does not want to give room for that again, he wants to remain in charge, if nothing happens now, he could effortlessly pick to party’s ticket for another try in 2023.

So when next you hear, Atiku is Coming, be rest assured that his arrival may well be 2023.

No presidential candidate in history of elections tribunal has had a better chance than Atiku if the Nigerian Judiciary had honor but the sad thing is they dont but Atiku must go all the way so the Judiciary can show the world how corrupt and bias they are .. Buhari lost that election fair and square and everybody knows.

Buhari the beneficiary of free and fair elections is now using Federal might illegally to deny Atiku of his own free and fair victory but God is watching .
