Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State and chairman of the South-East Governors Forum has said the suspension of the Ruga settlement plan was because of its lack of consistency. Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had earlier suspended his administration’s plan to build Rural Grazing Area (RUGA) settlements in some states across Nigeria. Mr Umahi, who kicked against the insinuations trailing the federal government’s alleged plan for establishment of Ruga settlements earlier Mr Umahi explained that the South-east zone did propose a deal with the members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) as a panecea to achieving lasting peace between farmers and herdsmen. However, briefing State House correspondents at the end of the National Economic Council meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in Abuja, Governor Umahi said, “the suspension is owing to lack of consistency with the NEC and FG approved national livestock transformation plan, which has programme of rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) resulting from the crisis and development of ranching in any willing state. “The NEC says it is not compulsory and any state willing is required to put up a development plan towards the implementation in line with the NEC program based on the challenges inherent there.” The meeting had in attendance, governors of Ebonyi, Dave Umahi, Plateau, Simon Lalong, Kebbi, Atiku Bagudu and Adamawa Deputy Governor, Bala Ngilari. https://www.akelicious.net/2019/07/why-fg-called-off-ruga-settlement-plan.html 2 Likes

Am I the only one that read meaning into this statement... Osibanjo died chairing Ruga,but he is the one in charge Umahi rejected Ruga but went to Abuja for RUGA meeting.. This man called umahi will one day sign off ebonyi finally to caliphate SE governor's should please conduct another election and elect a new chaiman for SE governor's forum.. Juliusmalema:you sound unintelligent.... umahi was actually in charge of the committee that provided solution between herders and farmers...part of which he said was that there will be no RUGA, and suggested herdsmen buy grasses from South you don't read and I'm not surprised the meeting was executive council meeting of which the yeye Willie must have been drunk somewhere RUGA fall on Anambra...imagine if it happens together with the Anambra erosions and their umuleri fights like almajiris... There is no such thing as clashes between farmers and herders. The terrorists who come from West African countries and who go by the name, herders are the ones causing mayhem in all parts of the country. Ranching will not solve the problem. Deal with them once and for all, period! 13 Likes |

Mrakeli:The reason we have an explosive population is because of our open borders with Niger and Chad.... Most of these guys who shine shoes and we call 'aboki' and the ones who push cart selling water (water vendors) are not Nigerians.... About two of them who are my customers and I constantly buy water from are not Nigerians, they've told me themselves. But most of them have PVC and they vote in our elections, they are even considered more Nigerian than we Southerners because of their ability to mix up and camouflage as Hausas. So many inconsistency about this Ruga issue. The government should just cancel it outright. Simple thing to do is just place a ban on open grazing starting from a particular period and mandate the herders to go into ranching going forward. Why is that so difficult? |
