The organised Labour has directed its members in all the 36 states and Abuja to get ready for a total showdown with government should the negotiation on the adjustment from the new national minimum wage break down.

On its part, the government side is insisting on 9.5 percent salary adjustment for officers on grade levels 07-14 and 5 percent for those on grade levels 15-17.

The workers expressed concern that rather than presenting the two positions to technical subcommittee as agreed, but “Surprisingly, when the Technical Sub-Committee reconvened, the Government Side introduced a strange clause to the discussion insisting that the Term of Reference of the Committee was to work out the consequential adjustment of salaries of Public Servants based on the subhead provided for salaries in the 2019 Budget.”

All efforts by the Trade Union Side to persuade the Government Side to return to the right track of negotiation and agree on a realistic percentage increase proved abortive.”

"Thus, the Government Side deliberately created a stalemate and thereafter adjoined the meeting of the Technical Committee sine die.”

According to a communiqué, a copy of which was issued to newsmen, the workers said the downward review by labour was due to a promise by government to undertake a general salary review in no distance time.

The communiqué was jointly signed by the acting chairman and Secretary, Comrades Anchaver Simon and Alade Bashir Lawal.

The communiqué reads in part, “The Trade Union Side of JNPSNC has now resolved that the Federal Government should reconvene the meeting of the Technical Committee on Consequential Adjustment immediately so that it can conclude its deliberations and ensure that all Public Service Employees benefit adequately from the N30,000 new monthly National Minimum Wage signed into Law by Mr. President since April, 2019.”

How can Labour be expecting Buhari to spend the money that will be used for RUGA and registration of illegal Fulani migrants on increasing salary?

I suggest Labour start to kill cows if they want Buhari to take them serious.

Any other strike no go work.

So they dont have money to pay minimum wage but they have enough to set up ruga settlements across all 36 states and provide schools, roads, hospital, power supply etc to all the ruga community?

Labour need to understand the politics played by the government. You should endeavor to think ahead if you must achieve this goal.

Labour should embark on strike till all agreement have been reached. Failure to do this is gullibility.

Do you know how much each senator earns? Compare that salary and allowances to what the citizens earn(The very hard working citizens)...

If we do not cut cost of governance as soon as possible, we will wake up someday and realize that majority of this politicians were never Nigerians. They only fed large on Nigerians wealth and ran back to their original Country.

Labour! Don't dull

Who cares... we cant be using all our resources to cater for politicians and civil servants, and still expect us to borrow and mortgage our future to fund budget that only service their Salary Allowance and Expenditures

Any fool that doesnt benefit directly and joins them is a dunce... Until they protest to reduce cost of Governance,Poor Power supply, RUGA or Seciurity votes and constituincy projects then count us out

Buhari and Nigerian government has money to establish Ruga settlement for Fulani terrorists but they don't have money to pay workers.

Any other strike no go work.

A lot of people might see your comment as a joke but it's the pure, undiluted truth.

No amount of strike would move a rigid Fulani irredentist except you attack his cows or the cows of the people.

The other day, one of the brainwashed youglings on this platform talked about Nigeria not having enough money to pay workers and I corrected his ignorance, telling him that Buhari is providing about 16 Billion for the RUGA project and you know that not less than half of the funds are available, with the zeal and passion, the presidency put at it.

Forget it, if government want to work, they will. If they are passionate about paying workers 100k as minimum wage, a month is enough to process it, but when you hear words like ORDERED , DIRECTED in Buhari's administration, know that it would NEVER be implemented.

His reluctance and foot dragging before signing the bill into law says a lot about it. Nigerian workers should forget about the increase in minimum wage for the next four years. Once Buhari pays the least 30k, it's over.

Nigerians deserve the devils that rule over them. Sadly, another one would take over after Buhari and create its own mode of suffering for the people who are too foolish and docile to challenge it.

Some idiiots would quote me with their ad hominem and straw man bullshît to defend the nonsensical policies of this government and those before it. Nairaland has tons of them
