Maryam Babangida created Delta state. That is why Bendel Igbos like the Ika and Anioma were lumped together with the oil rich South of the state.

Many Urhobos,Ijaw, Itsekiri and Isoko see it as unfair till this day. Worse in their eyes, she made Asaba, an Igbo enclave, way up North, far from the oil producing areas the capital. That was mean!

She wanted her people (She's Delta Igbo) to benefit from the oil even though not oil producing areas.

Warri is more developed than Asaba, yes, but had all the money invested in creating Asaba been channelled into Warri, then Warri would have been in the same rank with the likes of Port Harcourt or the 2nd most developed city in the entire south after Lagos. This is what they are saying.

Asaba has no single oil, all the oil comes from Warri region, but was used in developing Asaba.

Nigerians need to remember this man as the genesis of most of the hardship we suffer today in Nigeria.

The creation of Delta state was because of his wife.

He even had to ensure the capital was in Asaba despite protest by the majority of Deltans that they wanted their capital to be in Warri.
