One of the areas I think needs investment in Nigeria is Business Education.

There is no doubt about it that there are many graduates who go about the nooks and cranies of this Country in search of jobs that are few compared to the number of people in need of them. It is no news that every year many graduates pass out of higher institutions only to hit the labour market in search of lucrative jobs

An investment in a business school will ensure that the graduates set up their own businesses after they graduate from there. If such a school is set up, people can enrol there, learn about the rudiments of business and afterwards set up their own businesses without the need to go about looking for jobs.

In addition to this, there should an arrangement for the graduands to have access to funds for the business start up. There are many people who have business ideas, but do not have the funds to invest in it. So, this will go a long way in making their graduation from the school a jolly ride, rather than acquiring knowledge, but lacking the funds to set up the business. That will be like going back to square one and the essence of the school which was to raise entrepreneurs will be defeated.

One of the things that can be done to restore Nigeria's image is for all Nigerians to be faithful to whatever is committed to their trust and to understand that it is tha blessing of the Lord that makes rich. Public office holders should not see public offices as an avenue for enriching themselves and they are to stop seeing the nation's money as a national cake!

Nigeria’s economy is highly inefficient. Moreover, human capital is underdeveloped—Nigeria ranked 151 out of 177 countries in the United Nations Development Index in 2004—and non-energy-related infrastructure is inadequate. The Nigerian Government has put in place a number of investment incentives for the stimulation of solid mineral sector investment from within and outside the country.

One particular area of investment that would help build the nigerian economy is investing in agriculture. It would help ensure food security and improve trade relations with surrounding nations! smiley

hi,

Let me say here that Americans got involved in other countries (esp. the underdeveloped and developing countries like ours) through the oil deposit. Most oil giants (Chevron, Texacco, ExonMobil, etc) are natives of America. About 65% of their direct foreign investment is in the Oil and Gas sectors.

However, that doesn't mean any can't survive without oil. Japan for example, survived the post-war era by investing largely in their home-grown electronic industries. A Japanese owner of Daewoo Racer automobile industry, wrote titled, "Every Street Is Paved With Gold". I hold that book in my library up till date, It really talks about revamping any depressed economy with case study to Japan.

Very painful to say that Nigeria has the largest deposit of oil, bitumen, solid minerals, gold, agro-allied products, talented human resources, and so many resources to mention a few, but we are one of the poorest countries in the world due to poor leadership.

If people like Obafemi Awolowo could establish giant projects in the old era of government without oil money, then now that we have oil and other solid minerals to it, why we can't become one of the 20 economic giants in the world? The issue of Nigeria starts from the heart of every souls, big and small.

That's my own comment

Thanks

EDUCATION
It is unfortunate people don't always think about this sector but it is the only one that can drive the nation forward, not oil or any other measure.
Nigeria's educational system is currently comatose and unless something is done to remedy the situation, it's bye bye to an improved economy for the nation.
As one who is in the chalk and duster profession, I have observed with increased unease how the basis of Nigeria's development is gradually eroded by the administrators, teachers, parents and students: we are all guilty of action or inaction.
To rebuild this sector, there is the need to reorganise our National Policy on Education to place more emphasis on teaching in our languages of the environment. This will encourage thinking in our indigenous languages and a better understanding of where we came from. Thus, our indigenous culture will be sniffed at for the good aspects for adoption and our not so good aspect for modification and jettisoning.
Secondly, we shall encourage honesty, integrity and diligence by teaching the students, right from pre-primary school, on the values and norms expected in our society and by making sure that criminals get punishments commensurate with their crimes.
Finally, we shall introduce functional educational system whereby any graduate of our secondary school system would be trained to search for ways to be self sufficient so that they will not depend on the government for employment even after graduation from whatever higher level of education.

When all these have been put in place, we shall review our effort yearly to easily observe the need for fine tuning while equally putting the time frame for the realization of the objectives of this project at a minimum of twenty years. All, I believe, will be well

Seun: - We need private companies that can offer abundant and affordable power supply to those willing to pay.
- We need to have even cheaper and better Internet access so our youths can click online and acquire skills on the cheap.
- We need to equip and educate our youths to be able to bid for outsourced jobs that are currently going to India and other Asian countries.

And for those who outsource the job that are Nigerians to have faith that their countrymen can do it.
