VP Sambo clarifies comments on C-In-C .

Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo yesterday denied saying that President Goodluck Jonathan has dropped the title of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces from his official title lists.

Sambo was recently reported in the media as saying that the President has directed that he should only be referred to as Mr. President.  He was said to have made the comment in London while responding to a question on long list of titles from the audience at the Oxford University where he delivered a lecture to the Oxford International Relations Society.

The Vice President, in a statement yesterday by his spokesman Umar Sani, said he was misinterpreted and that what he meant was that  the President has, as a matter of reducing protocol, decided that he be addressed as Mr. President.  He said the comments, does not in any way suggest that the President is no more the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but prefers to only be addressed as Mr. President in the spirit of reducing long list of protocol.
The statement said, “Given the widespread misinterpretation and or misrepresentation of Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo’s comments in the UK over the incessant abuse of protocol and why President Goodluck Jonathan (GCFR) prefers to be addressed simply as Mr. President, it has become imperative to shed light on the matter.

“While responding to a question on the usually long list of protocol at functions by Nigerian public office holders, the Vice President Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo at Oxford University, International Relations Society lecture held on Friday 22nd October 2010, has said that President Goodluck Jonathan, as a matter of reducing protocol, has decided that he be addressed as Mr. President, since it goes without saying that he is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Season of confusion indeed!

looks like too many people these days prefer to speak before doing the actual thinking.

When I read this news, the first thing that came to my mind was 'like Jonathan, like Sambo'.

It has now become a norm that every statement made by this administration is now subject to interpretation and re-interpretation. Why are they always subject of misinterpretation? The other day, GEJ said he was misinterpreted about the MEND defence statement. Now Sambo is saying he was misinterpreted about his C-in-C dropping statement.

A season of confusion indeed.

The name alone Nigeria spells doom these days.

This so-called clarification is totally unnecessary, in fact it only serves, IMHO, to further ridicule the office.

As was stated in the other thread when this issue first arose, he is the C-in-C whether or not he is addressed as such; it is his constitutionally empowered function (ie the role of the C-in-C). Anyone seeking to dispute that is actually committing a treasonable offence.

which is why this . . .

He said the comments, does not in any way suggest that the President is no more the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but prefers to only be addressed as Mr. President in the spirit of reducing long list of protocol.

. . .is absurd.

If he's not the C-in-C then what the hell is he doing in Aso Rcok? DUUH!!
