Gunmen Kill Ex-FRSC Chief, gateman


Gunmen yesterday killed a retired Assistant Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Dr. Adol Nwachukwu in Imo State. Nwachukwu, who retired from the commission some years ago, was shot at a close range by his killers Thursday night as he was returning from a social visit to his ancestral home in Ehime Mbano local council of Imo State. Unidentified gunmen shot also a gateman simply known as Ebo, last night. According to sources, the gunmen had come and asked after the boss of the deceased, Marcus Ebiziem. When it became apparent to them that the latter had escaped, they emptied some bullets on the deceased, killing him on the spot. A top official of the FRSC in Imo State confirmed the killing of Nwachukwu to The Guardian yesterday. He said: “It is true my brother. I am returning from there now. A retiree, he was just returning from a visit last night and these people stopped him and pointed a gun at his vehicle, which looks like a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV). They pointed the gun at his throat at a close range and killed him there. His body has been deposited at a mortuary. You know he would have become the corps marshal of the commission but age was not on his side.” The Imo State Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO), Mr. Linus Nwaiwu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) told The Guardian that he was not aware of the development but regretted that it happened. His words: “It is not to my knowledge. It is unfortunate.” Gunmen had killed a House of Representatives aspirant in Ideato North, Nze Sunny Ogbu, early this week near his hometown. In the same vein, yet-to-be identified persons also killed a female supermarket owner, Mrs. Amaka Onyeagwu, last Tuesday near her home in Owerri.
