Most countries cannot function without taxes. The problem here is that illegal taxes go into the wrong hands like police, agbero and "omo onile".

Obi had a showdown with them in Anambra when transport owners and workers told him to leave local taxes to them and consentrate on Federal taxes.

For whia?

Mind you, Nigerians cry and boast about paying all the taxes for development, when in fact they pay some into wrong hands and not much to the government until they want housing, shop or other benefits allocated to them.

The Government may need to make taxes billionaires pay public.

So someone without a job should be paying tax, na something dey worry una head.

4.5million tax able adult, how many of the tax able adult have a job

Hmmm....indeed. The 700,000 may in reality be feeding the 15million or so residents. It will be interesting to see the criteria used in arriving at that figure of 4.5million.

[quote author=Validated post=82768813]This is a big lie. Except the governor does not know the meaning of taxes which is very pathetic. On PAYE, is the governor saying that all Federal, state government, private sector employees are less than 700,000? If that is true, then there is a problem. Secondly, taxes are not just PAYE. We pay excise duty when we buy alcohol as the brewers charge the cost to the finsl consumers. VAT is paid in almost all major malls, purchases from registered businesses, etc. Fuel is taxed, contractors pay Withholding Taxes, etc. What about multiple levies on shops, transport operators like advert taxes, tenement rates or land use charges, building permits, vehicle licences, road tolls, etc. Are they not taxes in different names? What then is the base for your huge IGR if not taxes snd levies? A governor that does not know the tax base of his state is worse than a seller who does not know his wares.
Sincerely speaking , the best Lagos governor has ever had would be the worst in oth

With the huge IGR there is no reason to have untarred streets in Lagos, but what do you see ... "potwells" and dirty untarred streets everywhere.
Ah Oga mi, Twalé! May the wisdom God deposited in you continue to increase!
