Cabinet: 'godfathers' Did Not Influence Appointments, It Was Based on Merit - Group Debunks Report

The attention of Enugu Youth Coalition (EYC) has been drawn to the false narrative in one of the national dailies claiming that 'silent godfathers' influenced political appointments in to the cabinet of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State.

In a statement released to newsmen in Abuja by the National Coordinator of the coalition, Dr. Edwin Obune, the group said nominations were purely based on merit, proven track records and capacity to deliver good governance to Ndi-Enugu on larger pedestal.

The group noted that the State Executive Council will implement the recommendations of the 12 Sectoral Adhoc Committees report in the state to the later without obfuscation.

It however expressed confidence in the ability of the present cabinet members to drive home the policy thrust of the state government.

It further noted that implementation target was attached to each Ministry, Department and Agency in the state on how fast to achieve the targets because the state is already on the fast lane to progress and prosperity.

However, we understand that there are some frayed nerves who are not happy over their inability to make it to the cabinet, but we appeal to them never to allow the strained passion to affect the bond of our affections and shared hope for prosperity and good governance in the state.

On this note, we condemn the attempt by some persons to throw away the baby with the bath water just because they were unsuccessful in their bid to be appointed.

Hence, sponsoring false and spurious reports against the character and person of the governor simply because their time to serve the state has not come should not be an option because the strength of service to Ndi-Enugu is not measured by the number of persons in the cabinet but by our collective resolve and commitment to make the state great in our different field of endeavors.

The truth remains that Enugu is a state endowed with many capable hands and great minds who can turn things around for good even without occupying any political office in the state.

Therefore, trying to make the world to believe the existence of 'silent godfathers' as alleged in the report when there is nothing like that in reality betrays our avowed love and shared belief that Enugu State is in the Hands of God.

We believe the political affirmation we professed during and after the general election is sacrosant which our inability to make it to the cabinet cannot destroy in months and years to come.

We therefore enjoin politicians and supporters of the governor in the state and beyond to continue to pray and support the government policies and programmes in the state without strings attached.

This is the concept and philosophy behind our unyielding belief that Enugu State is in the Hands of God!

Signed:

Dr. Edwin Obune,
National Coordinator,
Enugu Youth Coalition

Is as if Enugu Youth Coalition is the only active political organisation in Enugu State that is truly working for Gov. Ugwuanyi.

Before the composition of cabinet, many groups sprang up online claiming to be working for the state, but after the cabinet was formed, they all went back to their comfort zones.

The leader of the group, Dr. Edwin Obune should contact me. I want him to work for my friend from Enugu who wants to run for governor in 2023
