No Plans To Withdraw, Says Jonathan. by HighChief4(m): 7:23pm On Nov 06, 2010
The Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organisation has denied in strong terms a statement attributed to a pro-zoning politician and former Ambassador to Switzerland, Alhaji Yahaya Kwande, that President Goodluck Jonathan would give up his bid to contest the presidential election in 2011.

The Director of Media and Publicity of the organisation, Mr. Sully Abu, described the statement as a figment of the imagination of the former ambassador.

Abu said that the President had not and would not contemplate withdrawing from the presidential race. He said that rather than withdraw from the race, Jonathan was keen about making himself available for the number one office in the land to actualise his objective to bring transformation to the country.

He challenged Kwande to devote his energy to the promotion of the cause of his principal, rather than venturing into issues that did not concern him.

Abu reminded him that he was not a spokesman for the President neither was he a supporter of the President’s ambition to retain the presidency next year.

He said “President Jonathan has never contemplated and is not contemplating withdrawing from the race for the presidency in 2011.

“On the contrary, he is enthusiastic about the prospects of his offering himself for service and helping to transform Nigeria.

“The Director Media and Publicity Committee of the organisation, Mr. Sully Abu, calls on Kwande to concentrate his energy on promoting the cause of his principal rather than embarking on a wild-goose chase.

“He is neither a spokesman for Jonathan nor a supporter of his cause. He, therefore, lacks, absolutely, the credentials to speak for the President.”

He urged all other aspirants for the position of president to adopt Jonathan approach to political debate and his issue-oriented campaigns.

Abu stressed that those who were aspiring to provide leadership for the country should focus on how to convince the citizenry on how they planned to render quality and effective governance instead of engaging in a campaign of calumny.
