WHAT TRIBUTARIES BROUGHT ABIOLA TO NIGERIA OTHER CORRUPTION AND RELIGIOUS EXTREMISM? DEMOCRACY DAY MY FOOT.
Throwback:

Is there an Abiola day or it is a Democracy day?

And is this June 12 Democracy day celebrating anyone's birthday? Yet you want to celebrate the birthday of a ceremonial President when the nation's first Executive Prime Minister and Ruler, who was assassinated in office, does not have his birthday celebrated?

Nigeria is yet to celebrate anyone's birthday as a national holiday.

June 12 is Democracy day, to celebrate not just Abiola, but all who took part as politicians and electorate, in that historic election. And to celebrate the culmination of the resistance it initiated that led to the Democracy every Nigerian enjoys today.

And yes, a Democracy day is necessary.

If only this man had formed a government with Awolowo and not chosen to align with the north that relegated him to ceremonial president, Nigeria will have been a better place.

Awolowo offer Zik the Prime Minister position but Zik chose to be ceremonial president. I etill wonder why?

Erm, I doubt that such an agreement would have happened.

There was a lot of bad blood between Awo and Zik...after Awo used (obviously tribalistic) means to prevent Zik from achieving poltical victory in the South West. Some people never forget...

Plus, in a way, in 1964...the UPGA alliance..Zik's NCNC, with the Awo faction of the AG was formed, to run for that year's election vs the NPC and the Akintola faction of the AG (renamed the NNDP) Times had changed.

Your personal opinion of it is irrelevant to the reality of its national existence.

You have always had a Democracy Day since 1999. Only difference is that it has now been differentiated from the Inauguration Day of May 29.

But that for Abiola is necessary, while the one for the first president of the nation isn't?

I'm Igbo nothing concerns me with Abiola....but shutting down a state for a man who is long gone makes no sense to me

This man happened to be father of corruption. Even Alvan ikoku took his case to the Congress house in 1954 in London. Why celebrating mediocrity well that's what they known for in their region .

This is the kind of holiday we should have, not this easter, maulud and co. We should do our religious holidays personally.

We should consider the economy of the state or country before declaring extra public holidays.

At present, the number of public holidays in the country (13 or 14 each year) are too many.

At the state level, some days may just be observed but should still remain normal working days.

No you are wrong, Zik chose Nigeria first while Awolowo chose Yoruba first, this is the reason why Awolowo is very popular amongst Yorubas while Zik is not so popular amongst Igbos but popular among generality of Nigerians and in Africa

Dr Michael Okpara the then Premier of Eastern Nigeria is popular among Igbos because he was the Awolowo of Igboland, he chose Igbo first

Researching this man revealed how he played far beyond the level of his contemporaries in Nigeria. Tribalism aside, Awolowo achieved so much for South West; Tafawa Balewa pushed the progress of the North but this man pushed for the independence of Africa! Not in the same league at all. It is like working in Total FINA Elf, living responsible as an international staff and your brothers who live in the village and working with Nigerian Breweries but very responsible as well.
This Zik was in Ghana and took in mentees such as Kwame Nkrumah. Ran international businesses before coming home after he fell out with the powers that be because of his activism. Wow! Levels dey sha.

Grandpa your people HV derailed and we the sincere Nigerians will soon find our way to match those healthy dreams.

Yes, he was a great man but if he had aligned with Chief Awolowo then, True Federalism that his people are fighting for now would have been settled.

Rather he chose to align with the North to form government hence his position as Ceremonial President.

This is what Ojukwu wanted to correct through wrong approach.

The rest is history now. Rip
