Jesus did not say that to the man, but am sure Jesus said, I am the way the truth and the life no one comes to the father except through me. To be saved you need a balance of faith and works, you may ask what type of work, this is how Jesus defined work "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

Its in the teachings of the disciples,after the gospels. if u read you will see where they mentioned all these. These were some of Jesus words before he left

He mentioned they should teach and these guys wrote books containing what they learnt from Jesus.
