Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has ordered the Department of State Services to release human rights activists, Omoyele Sowore and Olawale Bakare, within the next 24 hours.

The judge also ordered the DSS to pay the sum of N100, 000 to Sowore for refusing to release him on bail despite two court orders to that effect.

The court also adjourned the trial of the case brought against them by the Nigerian Government till December 6 (tomorrow) for continuation.

Again! Again!! Again!!! and Again!!!! Release these guys for goodness sake? The Buhari govt is busy releasing the so called "repented, rehabilitated and deradicalized BH so why is it still keeping Sowore, Dasuki & co?

When does national security supercedes the rule of law? Why are the CJN and AGF not advising this govt appropriately?

The judge and any judge who tries this case is quite unserious.

If they really want to protect the rule of law, what they should do instead is not hear any case against the defendants till the court order for their release is obeyed.

Mr Muhammad said the rule of law which is the bastion of every democracy across the world will be strictly observed.“The rule of law must be observed in all our dealings and we must impress it on the governments at all levels to actively toe the path.

“The right of every citizen against any form of oppression and impunity must be jealously guarded and protected with the legal tools at our disposal.“All binding court orders must be obeyed.

“Nobody, irrespective of his or her position, will be allowed to toy with court judgments,” he said.

As far as I'm concerned, this isn't a win for Sowore, rather it's a loss.

After sleeping detention for weeks (or maybe months) he gets just 100k compensation.

Not only that, he is still coming back to court tomorrow and might return to cell if the court finds him guilty.

Sowore 0 - 4 FG

Except you want wahala, don't mess with the government.

Yoruba people say:

The one who has no sharp sword in his hand doesn't look for the killer of his father

He, just as Kanu, aren't enviable warriors because they went on the offense when they had no strength.

Is their reason for fighting right or wrong? That's another topic.

where are the "national interest supersedes rule of law crew" - u will begin to wonder at the kinds of statements that comes out from supposedly educated people in this country - even lawyers that prides themselves with the slogan "my learned colleague"

i wonder how we can run a democracy without rule of law - if so the president becomes an absolute monarchy by default as in the olden days because he alone will rule the nation by being the chief judge, chief law maker, and also the chief executioner of his own laws which is what democracy has come to abolish by giving us the 'Separation of powers principle"

but why are we really dragging ourselves backwards with full force
