In the First Republic(1963-66) Nigeria patterned her democracy after the British parliamentary system which produces a President and a Prime Minister as the heads of government and cabinet respectively.

The Second Republic(1979-83) saw Nigeria modelling her democracy after the American presidential system which produces a President as the only head of government, and it is still in use today.

These two sample democracies still have many differences with what is practiced in Nigeria in the areas of run-off elections, referendums, and some many other contrasts.

Should Nigeria copy the democratic processes of other countries or develop our own type?

If anything, Nigeria should adopt a Jury system in its Judiciary.

A sound Judicial system that can be trusted is the initial foundations of Democracy!

I believe Nigeria is not doing badly in the Judiciary. Over the years, we've witnessed a hard-working judiciary system especially in the area of tackling the widespread election rigging that marred the 2007 general elections.

As of now, all ears are wide open to hear the outcome of the judgement of the appeal courts handling the Osun and Sokoto state disputed elections.
