Oil prospecting has begun in Keana local government area of Nasarawa, the state governor, Abdullahi Sule, has said.

The gorvernor disclosed this on Wednesday while hosting the Alago ethnic nationality who were on a courtesy visit to the Government House in Lafia.

“The first area that will produce oil in commercial quantity from the northern region will most likely be Alago area, as the process is ongoing for oil prospecting in Keana local government.

“Most of you may not know what is happening because you will think we have talked about it and the matter is gone. Oil prospecting is like agriculture or sugar, it takes time.

“Oil prospecting requires various seismic tests, which means the investigation into what kind of oil you have; what quantity of oil is there; where exactly is it located; where do we drill the real well that we can hit the oil rather than drilling on a dry area? All that requires a lot of work and it requires high technology.

“We are hopeful that it will be the first area that will produce oil in commercial quantity, not only in Nasarawa state but most likely in Northern Nigeria,” he said.

Governor Sule said that the Alago land is blessed with human and material resources.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation and the Andoma of Doma, HRH Ahmadu Aliyu Ogah Onawo, expressed gratitude to the governor, describing him as a leader who has come with the intension to convey goodness to the length and breadth of the state.

“We are begging for every good that you do, for every local government, our local governments are there. For every good that you do for every people, our people are counting on you,” he stated.

Also speaking, the chairman of Keana local government council, Adamu Adigiza, said, “I am expecting the oil prospecting team’s result anytime and hoping that they find oil in large quantity for its output to be utilized for the development of the state and the nation at large.

This brings us to the restructuring debate.....

Like I keep on saying here, every state should generate their own Internal Revenue with the natural resources they're endowed with.

The era of "monkey (South) dey work, baboons (North) dey chop" should be discarded.

If their own natural resources there is sugar cane, groundnut and beef production, they should harness it and stop tapping from another man's well like one North London manager (Josè Mourinho) tapping from Southampton.

I would have wanted ombugadu as the governor of the state instead of this fool. This guy is even worse than ortom and Bello.. he hasn't done anything meaningful since he became governor.

The bida, benue, sokoto and most especially Chad basin are all blessed with huge quantity of hydrocarbon. The northern orligacies have been hiding this from Nigerian. The north is blessed with solid minerals of all kinds in large quantity and also blessed with fertile land for agriculture.

Why do you think Boko Haram won't leave sambisa forest, it's because of the oil and uranium deposit there.

With so much agricultural and solid mineral endownment from the north down to crossriver state, our dear FG instead prefer to spend billioN's chasing shadows. How can you not invest in what you have but spend so much time and resources looking for what you don't have. I
Who do us this thing?

That part of Nasarawa state is the most underdeveloped, backward, and primitive.

The people living in that part of the state are some of the most backward you can find anywhere.

Even if they discover oil there, nothing can work for them.

One sense like this then no get.

At the end of the day, it all burns down to prospecting for the black gold; all the sermons about diversification, industrialization and agricultural revolution are all a fuse to save face.

The constituents of the contraction called Nigeria all need to come to terms with the times. We can not keep basking in the same renewable stagnancy and call it progress. Governance goes beyond doing the routine. Its thinking and doing stuffs, out of the box, to promote social good on the largest possible scale.

Rearranging the Country with the Geopolitical regions as federating units is the first step to a rebirth of purpose, will and nationhood
