He has spoken like a man with brain. Review the laws you already have. No need to make new laws addressing an issue in one sector. Wondering when they'll make laws to address corruption in NNPC and National Assembly.
I'm not saying ASUU is holy but Universities don't need special sexual harassment laws when there are non for religious organizations.

Why the subtle threat to Nigerians, are we responsible for ASSU having morally bankrupt lecturers in institutions of higher learning? Oga tell your members to tame their illicit urge for sex for Mark before coming out to spew rubbish

I think he makes sense. Our law makers should try review existing laws. We still have laws which deterrent is ₦10000 fine or 3months in jail for criminal offence.
Law making should be devoid of emotions or rave of the moment, amend existing laws to take away the process of investigation from the institutions if that is what has been impending proper investigation of previous cases.

Most lecturers in Nigeria are perverts and sexual predators . Don't be surprised that the ASUU chairman would have himself sexually exploited and abused several girls. They are mainly randy he-goats. There's a lecturer in one of the southern universities that is alleged to have slept with more than 100 students.

Funny
I hear most of the time that it's insanity to be doing something the same way always and expect a different result.......simple the existing laws have failed and will continue to fail hence need for new laws........if we are to follow ASUU logic then why are people calling for the sack of service chiefs as if those who will replace them are not currently engaged in the battle against insurgency..........

Doesn't really cost anything to make such law. I mean what are these useless lawmakers good fot anyway? It's not like they do anything but they get paid the most.

Me I am not understanding. I have important questions I need the proposed new bill to address:

What of female students that harass male lecturers?
What of male students that harass female lecturers?
If the lecturer succumbs and just tastes small of her wet juice, is it harassment? Who is the harasser and harassee? Is it the student or the lecturer?

What of when the university gateman/cleaner is the one harassing a student, will the bill cover that?
What of when lecturer (male/female) harasses the parent or sibling of his student, but not the student herself/himself, what does the bill say?

What of guys that come to campus to carry our educated oloshos, hope the bill won't affect that parole?
What of the politicians (lawmakers, etc) that carry undergraduate female students to f**k, is that harassment?
What of the many female students that pass only because they f**k lecturers, won't this bill cause mass failure now?

Take it or leave it, our universities are dens of oloshos, and what most of the female students do is f**k their way through anything. Bill or no bill, those girls will still offer the sacrifice of their overactive pushy to those lecturers.
Or is consensual fockery exempted from the bill?

We need sexual harassment bill for teaching hospitals, the police force, the military, and every corporation where the narrow way to get a job is through your thighs. Those doctors and nurses too dey cooperate sexually.

This man sounds confused and obviously bigoted. How has ASSUU reacted to cases of lecturer sexually molesting, bullying and cheating their students. If lectures don't deserve being probed and checked on the bases of being the custodians of knowledge and pillars of progress, don't students deserve human treatment and justice as the are the reflections and manifestation of knowledge?

What stops him from threatening some of his colleagues who are soiling their image instead of drirecting his baseless anger and threat at Nigerians who seesl all of them as what some of them portray them to be?
Re: Sexual Harassment: You Will Pay Dearly If You Discredit Us, ASUU Warns Nigerians by jaxxy(m): 11:53am On Feb 18, 2020
So in other words ASUU wants students to continue to be harassed like it's been going on for years so that our randy and unprofessional lecturers can feel good about themselves rather than correct this long time growing hydra destroying people/students lives?

Wow they must be totally crazy.
Re: Sexual Harassment: You Will Pay Dearly If You Discredit Us, ASUU Warns Nigerians by BluntBoy(m): 11:55am On Feb 18, 2020
He made a great point.

If we have a law already holistically addressing sexual harassment, why create a new one?

If the old law is not doing enough with addressing the issue, the sensible thing to do is review that law, not create a new one.

We live in a country which likes to make laws but never enforces them. And when there are too many laws addressing the same issue, you will already know the type of incompetent legislators you have.

Exactly why the old law need to be amended or repealed. Do you remember the case of a pension thief that was sentenced to some months in prison with an option of paltry sum as fine?
He was given such by the judge because he was prosecuted under that law despite having a new law that has a more severe punishment.
If that law had been repealed or amended, there won't be opportunity/loophole for the prosecutor to charge him under such archaic law.
What makes you think a person of interest might not be subjected to processes of such archaic law in academic institutional environment?

The prof made a salient point, but as usual our journalists will always twist the the news and give it a catchy headline to divert attention.

Where is it done in any nation, that only a section of the country will have separate laws on sexual harassment?

Hmmmmmmm, let there be law that covers all forms of sexual harassment and not just education. Who will the young vulnerable job seeker report to, how about that banker that was sexually assaulted just in the name of marketing?
Propose bills for those sectors too.

Both rape and false accusations of rape are evils.

The stigma continues to increase because ASUU shy from their responsibility in disciplining their members. The university council shy from their responsibility too because in most cases the allegations made by the accused are swept under the carpet although not in all cases. However this does not rule the fact that they pretend to be working when the issue had gone haywire.

Don't know about others but you dare not be rumored or reported in FUTmx.

The new law will repeal the old law and enact the new one to replace the old one that usually the practice. The case you reference can only happen if the court case was instituted before the commencement of the new law.

New laws do not just repeal old laws except it is geared towards that purpose. How do a law addressing educational institution issue covers other sectors if indeed it repeals old law?
The case I mentioned wasn't instituted before a new law was passed, the prosecutor choose to charged the accused under the law for reasons best known to him which unfortunately gave the accused a light sentence upon conviction by the court
