Sanusi Lamido: No Northern Leader Should Be Happy Today Over Poverty, Insecurity by Anambralstson: 5:55am On Feb 18, 2020
The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi ll, on Monday said no leader in Northern Nigeria can afford to be happy with the current situation in the region today. He said nobody should be happy with about 87 percent of poverty in Nigeria being in the north. The emir, who made the remarks while speaking at the 60 birthday of Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-rufai, said he was not happy with the situations in the region. Emir Sanusi said if the North does not change by tackling some of its social problems, it will destroy itself.

“When we talk about birthday, we talk about happiness. Just last week, someone asked me, are you happy? And I said I am not. And the person was surprised.
Nobody who is a leader in the Northern Nigeria today can afford to be happy. You cannot be happy with about 87 percent of poverty in Nigeria being in the north. “You can’t be happy with millions of Northern children out of school. You can’t be happy with nine states in the North contributing almost 50 percent of the entire malnutrition burden in the country. “You can’t be happy with the drug problem; you can’t be happy with the Boko Haram problem. You can’t be happy with political thuggery. You can’t be happy with all the issues; the Almajiri problem that we have. “We have been saying this for 20 to 30 years. If the North does not change, the North will destroy itself. The country is moving on. Quota system that everybody talks about must have a sunset clause. “So, we wish Nasir a happy birthday, but we do not want him to be happy as a leader. Because you are happy when you think you have reached a state of delivering and taking your people to where you want them to be,” he said.

The emir added that with ‎the condition of Northern Nigeria, it’s almost correct to say that if a governor in the North or a leader in the North are seen as normal in the sense that they continue to do what their predecessors have been doing then, then there is something wrong with them because they are part of the problem. Emir Sanusi noted that the real change in the north will come from those who are considered mad people because when you look around and say if this is the way people have been doing things, and this is where they have ended up, maybe there is the need to do things differently. Also speaking at the event, the ‎Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, said Nigeria is at crossroad. He urged northern leaders to work hard to tackle insecurity in the region.

He added that kidnapping, banditry, assassination and Boko Haram remain major challenges in the region. He commended Governor Nasir El-rufai ‎for all the good work done in the state, describing him as an asset to Nigeria and humanity.

Emir Sanusi is one of the sensible Northerners. His thinking is quite different from others.
El rufai with his over 80 Harvard university certificates is still thinking like a shallow man and yet he wants to rule Nigeria.

Is it possible for the North to take Rochas and Ngige and give us Sanusi, we will still add 300Million dollars for them.

shocked

North is the enemy of itself.

Anything happening to north are caused by northern leaders but it ends up consuming them. They will create something to fight southerners but it ends up consuming them.

They created boko haram in order to use it to fight any Southerner in power but its consuming them now.

They created herdsmen to fight Jonathan if he wins 2015 it is gradually consuming them.

They encourage high birth rate in order to have more people to vote during election so as north to allow a southerner rule, but alas almajiri is littered all over d places in d north causing high poverty rate.

They created sharia law it turned majority of them to beggars.

The next thing that will consume north is d Shege ka fasa that they wanted to create, its only God that made northern elders not to approve it cos they already know d implications on d long run.

There are only 5 people that speaks the truth in d entire north nd they are.
1. Emir Sanusi
2. Bishop Kukah
3. Sheik Gunmi
4. Engr. Buba Galadima
5. Bishop Manza.
Allah ya saka da alkairi

If the current president was from the South with this level of hardship and insecurity more especially in the North, the northern would have burned down this country.

But as it is now we are all enjoying Buhari government, Sanusi stop crying we all die here bro, you guys brought this calamity upon Nigerians based on your short-sightedness.

They should continue, the only disappointment i have is with those ass....leaking North central governors who can't strategically cut the menace of insecurity by setting up Amotekun like agency.
Let them be thinking they are conquering to the sea while there region turn ti Mogadishu.

By the time the southern People will unleash hell on them they will know that they are mere sojourner here.

Sanusi is one intelligent guy, my problem is that the Northerners are not speaking out on this insecurity issue like they did in GEJ's tenure

The truth is that the entire NIgeria is in mess. You need to see the number of unemployed. In the the so called south.

It goes without saying that if the north had put effort in human development, like the south did, Nigeria would have been much better.

Over 90% of NIgeria wealth is generated in the south. Yet is is shared across the board equally. The free money had made people lazy.

If Nigeria was operating a system where people use their wealth for themselves and pay tax to the centre, some regions in this country would have been a wasteland. Because I will not use my money to build your rail, road, schools, hospital etc.

I am a graduate. I am working. Yet I Know I am not financially bouyant enough to father a child. A farmer that makes less than 1 million naira a year will be having 80 children. 6 wives. A massive reorientation is required.

In wake of this administration's gross incompetence and rapid descent into an unprecedented low, it is a bit refreshing to note that a few of the Northern elite have come out to say things the way it is.

However the same can never be said for a few persons on this forum who you'd feel that as youths the gross incompetence of the government ought to be their greatest bane but then party affiliations prolly for meagre gains attached means heaven and earth to them.
Posterity will judge us all

The North needs to start telling themselves the truth. The Leaders in that region have failed woefully and should be ashamed of themselves what it has become. Their greed and selfishness ruining all that is left.

Northern leaders don't care, see that one who calls himself honourable boasting in national TV about having 4 wives 27 children and still counting. The average Mai Shayi, Mai Okada, Mai Goro, Mai Zibo, Mai gateman will copy him, breed more children he cannot cater for and send to the streets as almajiri learning the ways of the prophet Muhammad. I wonder if people in Saudi Arabia who brought us the religion have almajiri on the he streets. How many Saudi Arabians have 4 wives 27 children including King Salman?

It's a shame that the North is pulling the nation back and tribes like Igbos have always lamented about this and tried to pull out but we're crushed by western powers whose interests the situation in the North serves as northern leaders remain subservient to the British crown

The foundations has been destroyed since 1960

What we should all fight for in unity for in our nation is how to all come together as a nation, especially the youths and STOP the politics of hatred, bitterness, religion difference and TRIBAL shenanigans that the evil political leaders keep preaching from time immemorial, ( and they have all been able to do that successfully...what a SHAME!)
If it remains that way, then sadly, things will never change for the best better.
Sad truth!!

If we continue like this as a nation, the future will continue to be bleak.

There is POWER IN UNITY.

A house divided within itself will NEVERand can NEVER STAND.

STOP YOUR POLTICAL FOOLISHNESS AND MAKE NIGERIA WORK AGAIN.

GOD BLESS NIGERIA.

Half a word is enough for the wise ones.

We Rise.

Problem in the Northern Region didn't just start today.

Traditional rulers and Clergy responsible for social engineering should be tasked on solving it.

When it was mere Christian V Muslim, Hausa V Southerners, you know we shouted but it was like holy struggle then.

Hope Katsina, Niger, kano are part of the North?
Re: Sanusi Lamido: No Northern Leader Should Be Happy Today Over Poverty, Insecurity by EagleNest(m): 6:45am On Feb 18, 2020
You can now see a classical paradox of how holding power for many years didn't necessarily translate to quality living. Can the North think beyond just holding power and start looking towards, education and population control, and demphasize on religion. Saudi, UAE, Qatar are all watering down on stringent religious practices and are embracing a little westernization. But in Nigeria as a whole it is the opposite, and we keep on sinking more and more.
