The retired Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Sunday Ehindero, was this morning at the Eagle Square pulled out of the force in a very colourful parade. The parade was witnessed by the creme de la creme of the security and defence agencies, including the Chief of Defence Staff, Major Gen. Owoye Azazi; Comptroller General of Prisons, Chukwuma Udeh; National Security Adviser, Gen. Sarki Mukhtar and other retired officers.

Others include Musiliu Smith, Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Alhaji Ahmadu Giade, NDLEA boss, Justice Niki Tobi of the Supreme Court and Mr. Paul Brown, Regional Security Adviser of the American Embassy.

The event kicked off at 10.00 am. One of the outriders who was displaying some acrobatic skills on his motorbike fell off and landed on his knees, and rolled until his colleagues who rushed to save him.

He was quickly taken out of the venue by one of the ambulances at the venue.

Ehindero, in his speech, praised the Nigeria police under his command for their dynamism and professionalism.

According to him, “the dynamics of crime has changed in our country in recent times. Bank robbers are no more interested in scaring bank customers and collecting their money. They now go in large numbers with welding equipment to attack bank vaults and the Nigeria Police under my command had braced up to the challenge.”

Ehindero also disclosed that crimes committed from 2005-2007 have been successfully investigated. He cited Dr. Ayo Daramola and Chief Bola Ige’s murders, which he said had been thoroughly investigated and the suspects paraded.

He took a swipe at the media for not accepting the story that Ige’s murder was drug-related and insisted that Alhaji Moshood Enifeni, who was paraded last week, was behind the murder of Chief Ige.
