OGA he is very correct... Just go and read about col adekunle during the war...He committed so many war crime..the most of all was the asaba massacre...

Adekunle was not involved in the Asaba massacre. You guys really need to stop lying. Adekunle didn’t commit any war crimes. If you have any evidence to back up your war crimes claim, post it here and let’s see.

Now,let me spell it out to you,...as simply as I can manage..

Nigerian soldiers made up mostly of jihadists were carrying out far worse crimes on the biafran civil populace ,..and even England were very much aware of it.. But this one was on camera..

Adekunle was constrained to do whatever he had to do for the camera.. If he didt , the good conscienced English will embark on serious mass actions that could cripple the English economy.. And the English authorities forced to withdraw their support for the federal forces.. And in a matter of days, the biafran forces who are overly motivated by survival instinct will overrun the federal forces.. So to forestall this certain scenario,..the killer Lt had to take the fall..

Get the pic?

After all the killer Lt who was likely a student of the murtala led asaba massacre hadn't broken any rules (in fact deserved accolades)..judging with the asaba massacre log book

Owerri was captured but sadly, they couldn’t hold on to the place after capture. And by any standard, Utuk was an extraordinarily soldier. He was beleaguered by Biafran soldiers for good five months and he still didn’t surrender. In April of 1969, he broke out of owerri with all his soldiers, dead deputy, all wounded soldiers, all pows and his equipment. It was an extraordinarily move considering the fact that he was surrounded by Biafran soldiers for 5 months without any help or supply from the 3mcdo HQ.

He was allowed to escape from Owerri on one condition, leave every weapon and food in Owerri. The brigade ceased to be a fighting force after Owerri debacle.

People at Umuakpu that night are still still Hale & hearty. So 52 Brigade Commander allowed Port Harcourt Road to be so unmanned that these people were shooting all the way, as early as 9pm, unchallenged, not even one Ogbunigwe to delay them. Please explain better.

I do not know where you pulled 52 brigade. By the way, who commanded 52 brigade? Major Utuk's 16th brigade was circled in Owerri as such there was no communication between the brigade and Div HQ in Port Harcourt. The effort to drop foods proved abortive as almost all the foods fell in Biafran hands.

Above post characterizes the reaction of person who had second hand information. He who drove the Panhard is more important than person whose bravery led to the capture of the armored vehicle. Above post is a slight regurgitation of story given by one man from Ebony State or Abia State.

52 Brigade was part of 14Div under Col Ogbugo Kalu. 52 had 38 battalion under Capt Enobong, & Capt Sunday, from Rumuokoro, but he died in battlefield, facing Port Harcourt Road.

Please when the October, 1968 push to clear Owerri. 52 Brigade was under Major Ugokwe and 63 Brigade under Lt Col. Iheanacho at Mbaise via Ugba Junction axis, all under 14 div, to block 14 and 17 brigades of 3MCDO. The main assault on Owerri was carried by 67 Brigade under Lt Col Okoi stationed at Akabo, "S" Brigade under Major Atumaka stationed at Emii and 68 Brigade under Major Achibong stationed at Aboh all under "S" Division. "S" Division HQ was Emekeuku under Col Onwueatuegwu.

Now 14 Div under Brigadier Ogbugo Kalu had its HQ at Atta. Its 60 brigade under Azum Assoyo stationed at Mgbidi to check 15 Brigade of 3MCDO on the flank.

The two arrowhead battalions were 74 (tigers) and 79 under Capts Okorie and Ebbe. The push to clear Owerri started at Umudagu, Umuncham and Achi all in Mbieri. The 74 and 79 were under 67 brigade. The 2nd and 4th battalions under "S' Brigade were also involved and unfortunately both Achibong and Atumaka lost their lives during the Owerri operation.

But there was little fighting that day when Biafran snipers killed Maj Hamman, which prompted Col Utuk to leave Owerri. Question is: which Biafran Field Commander gave Utuk the open CORRIDOR of Owerri-Port Harcourt Road? Why was Utuk's dispirited retreating stragglers not challenged, having been fully encircled. Military historians will demand answers.

Based on the intelligence that got to the 67 brigade HQ in Akabo, Major Ted Hamman might have been killed on 20 April 1969 at Orji/Ikenagbu. The lead battalion, 33rd commanded by Major Hamman of the 16th Brigade under Utuk was completely routed at Orji. I shall not characterize the retreat of disorganized 16th brigade under Utuk as a breakthrough or open corridor. The Utuk's brigade completely avoided the PH -Owerri major road because there were ambushes laid by flank battalions such as 28th and 6th of 68 and "S" brigades respectively. I cannot give the name or names of Biafran field commanders because there were classified information not be revealed during or after the war.

Your post would have been believable if not for the fact that you ignored the part where I said Utuk broke out of owerri with all his POWs. So, Biafran army allowed Utuk to leave Owerri safely with POWs who happened to be Biafrans? How does that even make any sense?

Btw, what food were you talking about? Utuk’s brigade were beleaguered for about 6 months. 3MCDO HQ at PH couldn’t supply food or weapons to them so any talk of leaving food behind cannot be correct. Utuk fought his way out with all his men, equipments, POWs and even the dead Ted Hamman. He didn’t reach any sort of compromise with the weak and incompetent Biafran forces that surrounded him.

Classifying war data 50 after the it ended? Kind of cover-up for horrifying INCOMPETENCE of Officers on both sides, that have been bragging of Sandhurst this & that. And similar Incompetence is being repeated in the war against Boko Haram.

Who were the POWs Utuk took with him to PH? The 16th brigade had enough weapon to take them to Orlu and end the war according to Nigerian government. Thank goodness that stored weapons and ammunition do not win a battle. By the December of 1968, most of weapons have either been used or destroyed. Sure 16 Brigade under Utuk was encircled in Owerri. Most of the attempts to drop ammunitions and foods from air force planes ended up in the hands of Biafrans. If Utuk and his 16 brigade had what it takes to break through to PH, one wondered why Utuk and his 16 did not press forward to Orlu instead of running back to PH as a depilated unit that never recovered. The same fate befell 15th brigade under Major Makanjuola which was destroyed by 60th brigade under Asoya. Makanjuola's juntas resorted to the massacre of civilians at Ogba on their hasty retreat to Elele Alimiri. Of course, Utuk could not get any supply from 3MCDO HQ at PH on road. All the attempted supplies through road went to Biafrans. Since you know Utuk had little or no weapons and foods, why did you still insist he broke through back to PH?

DedeTwo isn't helping matters.
You have sufficient wartime data to inspire helpful reviews to move things forward. Instead you declassify Field Commanders of Nigerian Army, & CLASSIFY Biafran Commanders.
It's obvious DedeTwo was at either Defence or Tactical HQ, because those in trenches can't know a quarter of info available to DedeTwo.

MetaPhysical, for the old pal sake, I can say you are better than the above crap. You have previously stated that 2nd Lt. Lamurde was not under the command of Adekunle. I guess Ogwe which is near to Obehie in Ukwa West LGA was under 1st Division sector under Col Shuwa instead of 3MCDO under Adekunle. In addition, you must understand that under army divisional level, chain of command does not terminate at the platoon commander. In fact, it does not end at the brigade level. 2nd Lt M. Lamurde should have reported the capture of enemy fighter to his company's commander who would take it up the chain of command. From the above crap, it is safe to say you actually know nothing about the military.

Ogbeni,
Focus on the single act of heroism, nothing else.

There two sides....the villain and the hero.

The hero has slaughtered the villain for his inhumane act.

Recognize the hero and stop wondering who the villain landlord was.

You don't anything sir, do you know that Macaulay Lamurde is a cousine to Adekunle? I am a Bachama Boy and one think for your information is that Adekunle mother is also Bachama Woman.

Lt. Macaulay Lamurde was tried and executed on 13 September 1968 by Colonel Benjamin Adekunle for the murder of a young Igbo civilian.

The 23-year old Lamurde and his platoon had seized a young Igbo boy who was hiding in the bush. When questioned, the prisoner, wearing only shorts, denied that he was a Biafran soldier; he was looking for his parents.

Lamurde shot the bound prisoner three times. Dying in war is too common to make this death seem extraordinary, except for one thing: a British television team had filmed the murder. Source: Zeit.De

The video is all over YouTube. From the video, he doesn't look like a young Ibo boy but a full grown man probably in his late 30s to early 40s. The Nigerian soldier stupidly executed the man in front of foreign journalists cameras.

Even if the man caught was a Biafrian soldiers, he was unarmed and had surrendered. Lamurde committed a war crime in front of camera. Very stupid action.

This might be the real reason the northern government that was in power after the war sacked Adekunle and exiled him to abroad where he died and was forgotten.

Distortion and framing of names is not a common thing.

At a time when we the concerned Nigerians are trying to build bridges across boards even to west , they never fail to disappoint by cooking up stories of no verifiable standard....The news.

#The news is another express news set up to further the known agenda of over many years.

Who doesn't know Adekunle and his ending. Same Adekunle automatically acting in favor if same people he loots to kill.

There is what we called Evil of no return ...when you spread propaganda and falsehood so much, u become so attached to it that truth seems like s mole-hills to you.

What exactly are you trying to say? The story is true. I saw the video of the scared Niafran boy being interrogated by some Nigerian soldiers.
