The dusts of 2019 elections have barely settled, but the race for 2023 has started already. The fight had barely ended but the gladiators are getting prepared for the next rounds of fights come 2023, which proves that our leaders are best concerned with elections than governance. There have been accusations and counter accusations, propagandas are stirring out of every corner of the nation amidst the lockdown of the world’s economy due to the covid-19 pandemic raging across the globe all in the bid of who will wear the crown come 2023. The bitter truth is that our leaders are playing with the soul of our dear nation and there is possibly nothing we can do than write or talk, but still not to talk too much due to the fear of what the DSS might do to you once they tag you an enemy of the state or notice that you are against the president, General Muhamadu Buhari.
Few days ago Mr. Peter Obi, the former vice presidential candidate of the PDP in the last elections had said Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu cannot be president of Nigeria and had a day passed before the chairman of the ruling party Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, came out to call him (Tinubu) a messiah.
But even in the face of all these Mr. Tinubu, the Asiwaju of Lagos as he is fondly called by his supporters is relaxed and has barely winked an eye lid because he knows just like a few others he cannot be Nigeria’s president, reason why he has never contested a presidential election.
His influence in Lagos cannot be denied even by the most ardent of his critics, a state he has controlled for over two decades, but his influence is not beyond the south West which invariably makes the Asiwaju a regional politician.
Unless the West were to form an Oduduwa republic which is currently against the laws of the federal republic of Nigeria, and is seen as treason by every arms of government only then can he be a president. But the Asiwaju has paid his dues and has earned his rights in the Nigerian political sphere. He is very much loved in his region but beyond his region people have doubts about him, unless he were to unify the whole South which includes the South –West, the South-East and the South-South but this will prove difficult because his major political enemies comes from this region and form an alliance with the North but this will prove difficult too. If you have followed the nation’s politics since 2007, you may have noticed that the North can give you anything but power, because that’s all they have and will do anything they can to cling to it.
Which is why the Asiwaju has only supported others but had never ran for the position. In 2007 he supported former vice president Atiku Abubakar, in 2011 he campaigned for a former EFCC chairman mallam Nuhu Ribadu, but switched his support in the eleventh hour to the then incumbent president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and in 2015 he supported General Muhamadu Buhari, in all these sequence he has never presented himself.
The Asiwaju’s political sagacity cannot be denied, but he may not be as sagacious as claimed by many. Out of all the candidates he has openly supported only President Buhari has emerged victorious which scores him a very low 25% out of a 100%.
The Asiwaju is not a fool, he understands the politics of Nigeria more than most so expect him to back another candidate come 2023.
The Asiwaju will not be the Nigeria’s president not because he is not electable but because he may never be on the ballot. He will not be the president not because he doesn’t want to be but because he recognizes that the Nigerian politics is beyond Lagos state and as such will not run but present another candidate.

Tinubu is not a saint but neither is he a sinner as no one can judge another man and he has not been declared guilty by any court of law. There maybe charges against him, allegations too but we cannot assume the duties of the court.

This useless Delta miscreant is mad. If Nigeria's politics is beyond Lagos, is it within your Delta? There is only one political strategist in Nigeria. His name is Bola Ahmed Tinubu. All other noise makers are nincompoops.

The OP didn't even give enough reasons why Tinubu cannot be president. I was expecting core facts to back up his claim. Anyway, we keep our fingers crossed. Till then.

No yoruba man can be president in 2023. They've seen the signs already that's why they are trying to blackmail the rest of the country with their 'audio amotekun' like they did pre-1999 with OPC. But it won't work this time.

They've taken their turn, they must now sit and wait for others to take theirs.

Pathetic it is Southerners, particularly from the SE, shouting most against a 2023 SW Presidency. For the information of you ireedamable haters in the South, the North, to even include it's radicals, know where they wish power to go if it is ceded to the South.

A situation that is inevitable as the North realize they cannot keep ruling and be expecting the goodwill of the South. The agitation for separation, especially the influential SW, Wil be too much for the North to handle if the region decides to monopolize power.

Rather than the haters to work on their own electoral appeal they are busy penning silly articles about Tinubu. Please continue. The Presidency is coming to the SW anytime it is headed South. Sure banker because the general opinion of the all-important North is the same as that of Junaid Mohammed below.

Pragmatists and conservatives in the North, who happen to be most influential power brokers, prefer and trust Tinubu ahead of even the likes of Osinbajo, Fayemi and even Fashola.

2023: I Will Rather Have Tinubu As President Than Have An Igbo Man – Junaid Mohammed

Junaid Mohammed, a Second Republic lawmaker at the weekend said he will throw his weight behind Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) if he decides to contest the presidency in 2023.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Independent, Junaid said he will rather have Tinubu to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari than any of the candidates in the South East.

He said ” If Tinubu wants to be the President of Nigeria and he asks for my advice, I will say go ahead because I will rather have Tinubu as President than have some of the people in the South-East who are ambitious and want to blackmail Nigeria into ceding power to them”.
“I know that no matter what happens, even if Tinubu were to be drunk, he will be a better President than Goodluck Jonathan”.

“I also know that he is better than Governor Kayode Fayemi who is also nursing presidential ambition” he said.

You've laid down some facts.

Many Nigerians, especially the educated one from the South with access to the net, don't do facts and reality. They are always sentimental in outlook and this is why eventual political outcomes, such as PMB's win in 2015 and 2019, shocks them.

Folks from the SE can rant against Tinubu all they want. I think it is ignorance of the reality of Nigeria that is their problem. They don't understand that Nigerians don't hate Tinubu as the do nor prefer others ahead of him as they do.

The reality is that, for many Northerners, Tinubu represents tried and tested hands and perhaps the Southerner they can trust the most not to spring any nasty surprises or be overtly nepotistic and anti-North. The same played out with OBJ. Today, Tinubu is the closest to the OBJ the North settled in 1999 as the 'safest pair' of Southern hands.

New age fellows like Fayemi the conservative North will be wary of because he will be viewed a gamble and a lightweight who is not battle-scarred and has not been in the 'war' trenches with them as Tinubu has. Osinbajo, for all his good points, the North may worry is not strong enough to deal with the cabalistic and ugly aspect of Nigerian politics.

In fact, after the first choice of Tinubu, many conservatives in the North will pragmatically settle on Fashola, for many reasons, than any other.

Certainly none will prefer an Igbo above a Yoruba. This is the fact some cannot accept even as it is the Nigerian reality every ethnic group worked to deliver. Unless the Presidency remains in the North, it will not go anywhere but the SW if it heads South. This I can bet any money on.

Have you finished surviving Coronavirus before talking about 2023. Can you beat your chest that the politicians you’re willing to die for will survive till 2023. Do you even know if this Coronavirus may be the death knell of the country called Nigeria?
See no one knows tomorrow. Coronavirus is here and that should be your concern.

Bruv, life goes on. It is called having vision and looking forward. The world has survived pandemics like this in the past and it is always proactive and forward-looking people who emerge best-prepared for the period afterwards.

You can become reclusive and fearful over Covid-19. Your prerogative. Nonetheless, life still goes on for some of us.

And I can bet any money it will go to the SW. Most Nigerians are too sentimental and not pragmatically grounded enough to know that the only thing constant in life is change. Even the way Covid-19 is ravaging the world is enough to teach intelligent men about the fragility of life and how the things we worry about can suddenly become inconsequential.

The most hawkish Northerner will realize that they are courting trouble by wishing to monopolize power. If this is a Nigeria where doing that will meet no opposition then fair enough. This is a Nigeria where the very intelligent and universally influential Yorubas will stand against the North's attempt to monopolize power.

Can the North fight a SW that can, in a socio-economic sense, distance itself from Nigeria once we are sure the North simply want to keep monopolizing power for good? It will be subtle and effective. Like Timaya said " e go do you like film".

Unlike Igbos we won't do it with noise, insults or threats of war/secession. There are more than one way to skin a Cat and the Yorubas appreciate this saying more than all other in Nigeria so be warned.

In 2023, the North should just show us they wish to monopolize power for good and they can watch strategy we will roll out to work around that because Yorubas don't feel inferior or second class to anyone in Nigeria. We know our worth and are sure of our ability to have the best Nation if Nigeria were to separate.

There is already a restiveness amongst Yoruba intelligentsia that we are not getting out of Nigeria what we put in even as we continue to persevere with a very flawed system for the sake of National unity.

I would therefore appreciate it if the North wants to behave in ways that would make that thinking become the opinion of every Yoruba man. We will see the outcome when every Yoruba accepts we are best out of Nigeria rather than be relegated to the status of second class Nigerians behind those who feel they alone should be ruling Nigeria as if it is their personal fiefdom.

I dont see how Tinubu, or any Yoruba man for that matter, can be president in 2019

To have any realistic chance of becoming president o, one must be the flagbearer of either PDP or APC. PDP is not likely to field a Yoruba man after 8 years of Obasanjo, that leaves APC

Now if APC fields Tinubu or any other Yoruba man, where will the votes to elect him come from?

The SE/SS area generally dont like APC and are likely not going to vote for them. Also, Tinubu has no influence in that area.

The only way that Tinubu can become president is if the North votes for him the way they massively voted for Buhari. I cant see that happening

I think that come 2023, the North will try to keep power by voting one of theirs

Tinubu hasnt got a chance
