President Muhammadu Buhari has advised residents of Lagos and Abuja to stay indoors in a bid to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja.

“All Abuja and Lagos residents are strongly advised to stay at home, avoid mass congregation of any kind as well as non-essential outings, until further advice is given,” Mr Mustapha said.

President Buhari also on Monday suspended the weekly Federal Executive Council meetings until further notice.

The President took the decision on the recommendation of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on Coronavirus.

The Task Force also approved other additional measures including, the postponement of the meeting of Council of State scheduled for Thursday the 26th of March 2020.

Other measures taken include that all land borders that have been hitherto under partial closure should now be closed to human traffic for 4 weeks effective from the 23rd of March, 2020.

The President also noted that in order to protect Federal Civil and Public Servants, a circular to be issued by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF) will direct on actions to be taken immediately.

He also resolved that if and when the need arises, any national assets required for use in the response to COVID-19 will be mobilized and deployed.

An assurance was also given that at the highest level, engagements with state governors in order to ensure a collaborative and effective response to COVID19, are ongoing.

Stay at home... I hope employers will let us... This can be easy for those that work in the public sector...

I think an executive order to this effect would be better instead of all this "urgings".

We hope people listen,
though it will be hard at first.
But safety comes first.
This is not only happening in Nigeria,
It is all over the world.
This virus is really bringing the world to a LOCKDOWN.

Oan,
We pray some people won't die of hunger while running from Coronavirus.
All hands are not equal.
Let's be our brother's keeper at this time guys.
Lend a hand to the less privileged around you.
@, We started sharing our bags of foodstuffs we bought for the stay at home to some less privileged in our neighborhood already( the little we can to help out) we started just 48 hours ago and we know we won't regret it.
Kindly do the little you can to help, if you can.
May God bless us all.
This too shall pass.
STAY SAFE GUYS.

They should declare a lockdown already.

Pay salaries immediately, give 2 days, then declare a lockdown nationwide.

No movement should be allowed across wards, except by emergency medical personnel and armed military men enforcing the order.

Movement within wards would be supervised to allow those that have give essential items - food etc to those that don't.

After 3 weeks, the situation will be reevaluated.

It's not easy for people to comply till it's enforced......US had to use army......so business men/women won't listen till it's enforced.

These people are clowns. They allow people returning from UK to troop into d country without enforcing quarantine at d airports and they now want those who didn't travel out of Nigeria, who have been safe, to quarantine themselves. How these people think baffles me
