Same here.

I was a visitor for a couple of months before joining as a regular but somehow feel betrayed.

It was a forum for intellectual discuss but now, it's just a medium for propaganda, hate, delusion and disinformation.

The forum is a perfect reflection of the true minds of Nigerians. The anonymity it offers allow everyone to speak their minds on national issues without let or hindrance. Any other thing you want is superficial and fake.
The country gets to reflect what it gives, it's a simple principle.

When we are all truly tired of 'the hate, bigotry' and stop paying lip service we will do what what other stable nations are doing by entrenching justice and equity. Even your president is openly sectional and bigoted. That alone contributes to the hate and bigotry you suffer here.

You cannot have unity and peace without the two 'condiments' above. What you'll have is unsustainable peace and fake unity.

Till you all are ready to clamour for justice, equity, the unity and peace you seek on this forum remains elusive and rightfully so. In politics there is nothing like 'fake it till you make it'

While I can never be a partaker of tribalism, I think we are missing a point here.

As a faceless platform, Nairaland truly mirrors that hate, anger and injustice commonly found among the peoples of Nigeria.

All these qualities exist in our people, but we are scared to openly exhibit them because doing so has weighty consequences.

Truth be told, Nigerians wallow in deceit and hypocrisy. And yes, we are well aware that our differences are deep-rooted, so it cannot be wished away.

Like I always say, if Nigeria is still struggling with unity for over 100 years after amalgamation, then there's no point being one country.

Let's stop living in denial: The hate and tribalism on Nairaland reflect the true Nigeria that many of us are not proud to openly exhibit.

Much as I don't see it happening at all, it may take Nigeria centuries to become a united country

Very apt!

Thanks a lot for telling the truth.

You have a president that goes around calling his people 5% because they didn't vote for him and not from his tribe and religion ....

How do you expect tribalism to end in the country....

Quota system... Nepotism and injustice everywhere you go...

Op.... Go and sit down

Nigerians are naturally savage and this is what makes this boring zoo a bit entertaining.

Go create your own forum and leave our Nairaland for us.

Your thread shows you are not on ground. What happened on Nairaland stays on Nairaland, I have not seen anyone take those hatred outside Nairaland.

Your platform is one of - if not the most visited platforms by Nigerians for news, updates, discussions, constructive criticisms etc - on Nigerian issues and global affairs.

I have been a member for over 13 years now. I witnessed the civil old days where discussions were polite, educational and informative. I also witnessed the "great crash" when you lost some of the data and threads of old. But what we are witnessing now with the abusive, uncivilized and quite frankly misinformation that is pervasive now on this platform is abhorring.

The latter would have caused any sane person to leave the platform but Nairaland is more than a platform to us, it is a virtual Nigerian community and its sections represent our diversity.

I am suggesting you create a section or subsection (you may start with politics) where discussions and topics are civil and informative, where ideas are shared, sequence of discussions on threads are logical and constructive criticism thrives. These sections should be aggressively moderated with instant hiding of unruly comments and ban on their proponents.

When I joined Nairaland more than a decade ago I was based abroad and the forum provided me with a medium to feel at home outside home. That is still the case many in diaspora and in fact foreigners still surf the forum, but unfortunately the experience they get does not represent the essence of our society.

I believe it is possible with the team you have but ultimately it is your forum and the choice lies with you and you may choose to do with the forum what you will.

After he has created this section for you, who will create the same section for you in real life? You want a heavily moderated section where the freedom of speech and freedom of expression are "ruthlessly policed" so as to give you and others the sense that Nigeria is not a highly tribalistic, ethnocentric country?

You people should face the reality of what Nigeria is as reflected online where people freely express themselves without having to look over their shoulders.

Face the reality that the much touted 'one Nigeria' is a sham and that the so called Nigerians have their first allegiance not to Nigeria, but their ethnic affiliations.

What should be policed on NL is abuse, fake news, insults, intimidation and threats. However, it should not be NL's duty to promote national unity and cohesion

Good point, if the injustice is not curtail forget about ending the hate. A situation when miscreants and lowlife insults anyone that does not align to their deceit especially those supporting this government. Due to what they are benefiting presently they go about instigating hate post and labelling opposition Ipob.

. I could remember the old design and platform. Then it was fun and educative and i can’t just wonder why it’s now filled with bile, hatred and tribalism. Then we had little or no banning because everyone behaves well. Nowadays someone that can’t even stand you in everything will just come and through jabs at a very reasonable discussion. Well to me Seun hasn’t done much to curtail the insults and bashings going on here. It’s a shame.

Hmmm!

The new section will mean the young generation can learn from focused and engaging discussions while we also learn what's currently trending on from the main section.

They will derail the thread with the usual tribal banters, advertisements, fund raising and totally irrelevant comments. If there's a way to curb all that on the suggested forum, it will be a platform that will generate great ideas for the government and the society.

Don't be deceived. What is being posted here is a true reflection of the minds of an average Nigerian. You can't be posting silly post and say you are having fun? Its only a dishonest person that don't admit the negative impact of hate post in nairaland to the society. Lastly, when those working with government make annoying statements and those benefiting from government keep quiet, it only breeds hatred and dissatisfaction in the mind of Nigerians.

Na moniker you mention so o... Back to the matter, nairaland used to be the forum for nigerians outside nigeria to get the latest gist from back home and to relate with fellow country men. You learn things daily and above all no tribalism.

Seun take this with a pinch of salt. One impact the wrong audience makes on your site, is chasing potential businesses wanting to place ads away because if they validate, analyse and verify the audience based on comments then no serious business will advertise with you

Ok

But for us, we do it for fun.

Even Gbenga my guy will login with my phone and use his account to call my people Flath.ead, I will log him out, tag him and call him Yoruba Moslem.

The same guy is our Senior Research Analyst and my subordinate. In fact, he is 2 levels below mine.

I have known him since the 80s, we graduated from the same University.

While I was doing law, he was studying English. I was the one that convinced him to enter into the legal profession because his analysis even as English graduate was apt.

Dude, went back to school and was called to bar ages ago.

So, are you saying because I call him Yoruba Moslem we have deep sitted hatred?

No.

It is all for fun.

It starts and ends here.

All these hates and tribalism started here around 2014... A section of the country started abusing the other telling them how sophisticated they are in playing politics just because they said they don't want to vote a particular individual and the later had to fight back.....

Well, I may agree with you with our yesterday convo.

But some people take it too personal.. I will give you an example.

There is a guy on NL that our opinions are parallel.. Politics or religion.

Someone cloned his account name and I drew his attention to that by mentioning him.. This guy only rant about someone cloning his accounts without even thanking the person that called his attention..

I still went ahead to comments on his response that I initially fell for it. Except if the guy is going to say thank you tomorrow...

NL is a place to interact with other Nigerians that you may never in life meet in person.

Me wondering if some people can secure a good job based on their comments here.

That is true

I make most of my money from Lagos, my most dependable Analyst without whom I am not sure I will enter into any case is a Yoruba Moslem, my biggest contract was given to me by a Yoruba, beloved SE is the best place to be in the world, but I can't imagine a life without Lagos, all my friends in Lagos are Yorubas.

So why should I hate yorubas or wish them bad? I supported Sanwo in the last election over Agbaje, I am zombie supporter of Amotekun and I will vote Osinbanjo any time, anyday.

I don't joke with Yoruba owambe parties, not those low-life parties. A yoruba lady plans my parties and my tailor in Enugu is a yoruba.

I pity those taking my trolls here serious.
