Nigeria, Chad, Niger commence joint onslaught against Boko Haram

By Wale Akinselure
On Apr 2, 2020

Poised to quell the lingering insurgency, nations around the Lake Chad basin, Nigeria, Chad and Niger have commenced a joint “massive” onslaught against Boko Haram.

According to the Voice of America, tweeting at voanews.com, the joint offensive is a renewed operation following the inadequacies of the multinational force of countries around Lake Chad to counter the militants.

The coordinated offensive against militants which commenced on Thursday with Nigerian troops will be followed by similar onslaught launched by troops of Nigeria, Niger and Chad.

The joint onslaught, according to the Nigerian military, was informed by collaborative terrorist attacks between Boko Haram and a splinter group affiliated to the Islamic State group on contiguous nations of the Lake Chad Basin.

Chad had, on Tuesday, expressed its readiness, with the nation’s defence minister, stating that the country had deployed forces across its neighbours’ borders to battle insurgents who killed almost 100 Chadian soldiers last month.

The militants on March 23 killed at least 98 Chadian soldiers in an attack on an island army base in Lake Chad.

Chadian President, Idriss Deby Itno, declared the surrounding area a “war zone” as he pledged a “lightning response” to the killings.

Chad had earlier withdrawn some 1,200 troops from Nigeria in January after a months-long mission battling the terrorists.

The joint operation comes on the back series of meetings involving Presidents of Chad, Niger, Nigeria and the Central African Republic with the intention to overhaul strategies to counter Boko Haram and other security threat in order to stabilise the region.

The ultimate aim of the new offensive is to rout the safe haven of Boko Haram in any of the nations and on any side of their borders.

Over the years, Islamist terrorists have established camps and launched attacks on military and civilians on nations around the Lake Chad Basin.

The 10-year revolt ha left at least 36,000 dead and displaced around 1.8 million people in northeast Nigeria alone.

No sir, Chad suffered huge losses which prompted them attacking BH in their territory, they deliberately withdrew from MNJTF, expecting Nigeria to pay their troops to fight BH, as if BH is out problem alone, this allowed BH to fester in Chad borders and coordinate attacks from there against Nigeria, now they have turned against Chad and then Chad woke up to their responsibility. The good thing from the loss of 98 troops of Chad is that they realised that BH is a threat to all and decided to join an offensive with Nigeria and Chad.

Deby asked Buhari to pay him to keep fighting BH in 2017, Buhari refused. Deby pulled his troops. BH hit Deby's army base and killed 91 soldiers. Deby realized he made a terrible mistake by leaving the MNJTF now his brain has entered reset mode. He's correcting his mistakes now by going after BH save heaven on the borderline of his country. Hope the onslaught on BH is sustained as long as possible!!!

There's nothing Tribune will write that will change the narrative.

The mere fact that the President of Chad was even pictured with the troop possibly in their base coupled with the magnitude of success recorded by the troop against the Boko Haram has already put Nigeria and her leader in bad light.

Nigeria too need to record a massive assault on the Boko Haram members for their latest carnage. Stop setting their arrested members free on the pretence of de-radicalization. Only then will Tribune be able to spin the narrative.

Which joint operation when same Chadian troops passed through Nigerian territory while Nigerian Army soldiers were hailing them into battle? Have the vegetable in Aso Rock ever done this;
It quoted sources from the Lake Chad region as saying the Chadian soldiers are hitting the Boko Haram insurgents hard.It said the insurgents were fleeing and that President Idriss Déby has been moving around in a chopper to monitor Boko Haram destruction.

U just dey talk rubbish, did BH not kill over 50 of soldiers a week ago?? even our shaky shaky General cried out that our troops were been overwhelmed by BH superior fire power. So what was our response like? but as soon as BH killed 98 Chadian soldiers, see how dey responded. Keep supporting evil, did Chadian president collect or recieve $1B from anybody to buy arms?? Their equipment is not up to date like ours but you could see how committed they are in wiping out BH even with their meager resources. Here our generals plus politicians are just milking us all in the name of fighting BH.
