U.S. Bomb Experts Arrive - FBI Agents swarm Abuja - OBAMA Says ' We will assist' by Nobody: 12:04am On Jan 02, 2011
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told Fox News that FBI agents have been dispatched to help the Nigerian government investigate the deadly bombing that struck an army barracks in the country's capital on New Year's Eve.
Napolitano spoke with Fox News on Sunday in Qatar, where she arrived for meetings with local officials after spending two days on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. The Nigerian bomb attack, along with a separate bombing in Egypt, was carried out shortly after Napolitano set out on her trip.
At least four were killed and many more wounded in the attack on Abuja, Nigeria's capital. Twenty-one Christian worshippers in Alexandria, Egypt, were killed in the attack on a church following midnight Mass. Muslim extremists were implicated in both attacks, though nobody has yet claimed responsibility.
Napolitano said the attacks show how the reach of international terrorism "knows no bounds."
"One thing I think it illustrates is that we live in a world where terrorism is part of the environment, unfortunately. And it's something that we need to be thinking about, we need to be planning for," Napolitano said.

She said there's no evidence at the moment to suggest there's any connection to "anything in the United States." She said her department would be monitoring closely and confirmed that the FBI has been dispatched to assist in the Nigerian investigation -- a situation she said "is not all that uncommon."
The FBI is often asked to help with such investigations due to its expertise in evidence collection.
Victims in the Nigerian bombing had been celebrating New Year's Eve in the barrack's open-air beer garden and market. President Goodluck Jonathan afterward promised people attending a church service in Abuja that those responsible would be found.
In Egypt, officials quickly blamed foreigners and Al Qaeda, though the investigation had only just started. About 100 people were wounded in that attack.
President Obama strongly condemned the violence in a statement Saturday. He said the United States is prepared to assist the Egyptian government in their investigation as well.
"The perpetrators of this attack were clearly targeting Christian worshippers, and have no respect for human life and dignity. They must be brought to justice for this barbaric and heinous act," he said, repeating the sentiment for the attackers in the Nigerian bombing.

President Barack Obama yesterday "strongly" condemned the new year eve's bomb blast near an Army Barracks in the nation's capital city. He also offered US' assistance to help Nigeria bring perpetrators of the dastardly act to justice.
A deadly explosion on Friday night at the Mammy Market located directly opposite the Mogadishu Cantonment formerly known as Sani Abacha Barracks in Abuja, had killed not less than 10 people and injured several others.
A week earlier, multiple bomb explosions in Jos, Plateau State capital, had claimed the lives of not less than 80 people and left several others critically injured.

In a statement issued by the White House, President Obama, while also extending his condolences to the families of those killed and to the wounded, said US stands with the Nigerian people "at this difficult time."
Describing it as "outrageous terrorist bombing attacks", Obama said: "Killing innocent civilians who were simply gathering – like so many people around the world – to celebrate the beginning of a New Year further demonstrates the bankrupt vision of those who carry out these attacks".

Noting that the attack near the army barracks in Abuja reportedly killed more than 20 people and wounded many more, the US President said, "we are similarly prepared to offer assistance to the Government of Nigeria as it works to bring the perpetrators to justice."
In the same White House statement, Obama also condemned the attack on a church in Alexandria, Egypt, which he said caused 21 reported deaths and dozens of injured from both the Christian and Muslim communities.
The US President said, "The perpetrators of this attack were clearly targeting Christian worshippers, and have no respect for human life and dignity."

Noting that US is gathering information regarding this terrible event, and is prepared to offer any necessary assistance to the government in responding to it, Obama said those behind the attack must be brought to justice for this barbaric and heinous act.
However, the Nigerian Police yesterday placed the nation on “red alert” in a determined bid to track down bombers it accused of disturbing the  peace of the nation.
Inspector-General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, who spoke in Abuja, said the police were prepared to ensure adequate security of lives and property.

He said while the red alert regime lasted, Nigerians were expected to assist the police and other security agencies “…with useful information on any suspicious persons.”
Ringim also listed what he called suspicious parcels, bags, packages or other receptacles, among others, as some of the things that members of the public should promptly report to the Police”.
He said the sin assembly of violence unleashed in some parts of the country notably:  Borno, Bayelsa, Plateau and Abuja through the use of improvised explosive devices was the handiwork of a few misguided citizens.

According to him, the intention was to create the impression that government and indeed the security agencies cannot guarantee the safety of Nigerians.
He also explained that the  security alert was put in place to contain envisaged crimes ahead of the 2011 general elections.
“While it is apparent that the recent attacks have been directed at innocent citizenry and harmless Nigerians as victims, the public is hereby reassured of their safety as the NPF and indeed all other security agencies are resolved to put an end to these irresponsible acts.

“All law abiding citizens have nothing to fear and should go about their normal businesses without let or hindrance.  No effort will be spared in bringing the perpetrators of these dastardly acts to justice.  This is the time for us to show resolve and solidarity,” he said.
He stated that appropriate counter measures were duly activated and all those involved in these heinous acts would  be rounded up and made to face the full wrath of the law soon.

A statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Olusola Amore, said “so far information at my disposal revealed that four persons are confirmed dead while 21 injured are currently receiving adequate medical attention.   The IGP once again wishes to reassure the public of their safety and to be rest assured that any design to undermine the stability and security of this country will be strongly resisted.”

From MOLLY KILETE, Abuja
Sunday, January 02, 2011

Bomb experts from the United States of America yesterday arrived the federal capital territory to begin investigation into Friday’s bomb explosions at the mammy market at the Mogadishu Cantonment (formerly Sani Abacha Barracks).

The team of forensic specialists, who arrived the cantonment in a space bus with registration number 140CD179, were received by the commander of the Army Garrison Headquarters (AHQG), Major-General Mike Nasanu.

Also on ground to receive the American bomb experts was the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police commissioner, Mr John Haruna, who came with men of the forensic department of the Nigeria Police that would work with the Americans. The American team, which came with different equipment, was seen discussing with their Nigerian counterparts before they moved into the mammy market where the blasts occurred.

Security was tight around the area, which has been condoned off by the military authorities. Visitors and residents of the barracks were subjected to thorough search by soldiers at the gate. Motorists were asked to open their boots, identify themselves and the personnel they were going to visit.

Sunday Sun gathered that the team of experts as well as the officers and soldiers who accompanied them saw human parts that littered the market from the blasts. Shrapnel said to have been used to make of the bombs also littered virtually every part of the market.

A military source told Sunday Sun that some of the human parts at the scene of the incident included legs that were cut off from around the thigh area of victims. He said the legs include those of male and female and other human flesh scattered all over the market, which is beginning to ooze a putrefying odour.

Several siren-blaring police vans with heavily armed personnel are patrolling Abuja and environs following the New Year’s eve bomb blast that reportedly claimed four lives.

The fresh security measure is believed to be a show of force to assure residents of the combat-readiness of the police and other security agencies as well as instill fear into persons plotting terrorist and other criminal acts within the federal capital territory.

However, fresh facts emerging on the explosions at the Mogadishu Barracks in Abuja indicated that it was indeed a twin blast, which occurred about four hours apart in the same vicinity.

Earlier reports had put the casualty figure from the first incident, which occurred about 7.15pm, at four dead and 13 persons injured. No casualty was said to have been recorded in the second blast, which reportedly occurred at 11pm, barely one hour to the New Year. However, spokesman of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command, Mr Moshood Jimoh, told our correspondent yesterday that while the number of victims who lost their lives remained at four, the figure of those injured has risen to 21.

“Our men in the Dog Section are going round with snuffer dogs to see if we can make some recoveries. It is the same with operatives of our Anti-Bomb Squad, who have been working round the clock since the incident occurred on Friday. For now, the number of those injured has increased to 21 while the death toll stands at four,” he said. Jimoh, a Superintendent of Police (SP), further hinted that there was yet no clue on the perpetrators of the act or their motive, even as the Movement for Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) had reportedly claimed responsibility.

According to him, “investigations are ongoing and when incidents like these occur, it will take sometime for you to have clues. Maybe by Monday or Tuesday, we shall begin to have some clues.”

Good development. At least Nigeria is admitting their security ain't spit. They call the US after many are killed instead of working with them before hand and learning how to handle such situation and purchase the same investigative materials as the US to carry out reasonable security.

Step two is to hand Atiku and IBB to the US for issues related to financial crime.

Step three would be to investigate the gang of bats, Ciroma, Kaita, Tanko Yakasai, Kanti Bello, Atiku, IBB and the other ethnically bigoted, "born to rule" fools for bomb related crimes.

Step four will be to bomb and completly erase a couple of Boko Haram habouring towns.

This is very welcome development. I have nothing wrong in people admitting failure and seeking help, in my opinion it is not a sign of weakness, it takes a real man to admit to these sort of things, No one can claim to know it all.

The fact remains that our security services are not up to scratch and need help. If only we had sought help earlier, maybe some of this would have been averted.

Well done GEJ, let Nigerians know that you are better than the wrong percerption flying around, by seeking wise council. If the honesty in your heart is true, then I wish you well.

And for those who have sought to harm innocent people, the day of reckoning is near

Any Nigerian who rejoiced over this criminal indictment on cesspit called Nigeria through the original post should not be allowed a chance to free air. Probably, the experts from USA should send the scrap metals from the bomb scene to the university laboratories in USA for analysis of alloy used in preparing the bomb. It is a shame that Nigeria, for 50 years as country, can not investigate high school prank.

I am still amazed why Nigerians or Africans should be upset when disdainfully looked upon by Europeans, Asians or Americans. This is another proof that Africa, maybe with the exception of RSA, does not belong.

Just to re-emphasise, we will soon be seeing US bombing attacks in Northern Nigeria. FBI involvement is quite minor compared to that, so lets save our tears.
All Islamic terrorist actions are ultimately targetted at the US, therefore they are legitimately interested in the increasingly ugly events in Northern Nigeria.

Blame the political fools in the core North who think bombing innocent souls is some sort of political campaign.
