A section of youths in the Niger Delta yesterday vowed to go to war, if those scheming to stop President Goodluck Jonathan from returning to Aso Rock succeed.

Their warning was against the backdrop of utterances credited to former Head of State, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (rtd) and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar last week.

Babangida had said that any attempt to disrupt the zoning formula of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would hinder peaceful transition of political power in 2011, while Atiku was said to have quoted the French philosopher, Franz Fanon, that “those who make peaceful change impossible make violent change inevitable”.

But the youths, under the auspices of the Niger Delta Creeks Redemption Force, yesterday said that they perceived the purported utterances as an open invitation to war.

They vowed that Jonathan may be the last President the country would have, if the duo and others plotting to stop Jonathan succeed.

“We hereby accept their challenge of war and declare that Dr. Goodluck Jonathan may be the last President of Nigeria, if a Niger Deltan is not allowed to emerge president in 2011 to redress the age-long neglect of that region,” the group warned.

The group’s spokesman, ‘General’ Sam-Ebi Okosula, noted that despite the PDP zoning arrangement, Atiku and IBB had several reasons to make sacrifices and support Jonathan instead of opposing him.

He said: “The sincerity of Atiku and IBB’s repeated claims of concern for the Niger Delta necessitates (their) appreciation of (the fact that) Jonathan’s presidential ambition in 2011 is a child of necessity that could help reconcile the long-neglected and estranged Niger Delta region back to Nigeria.”

While condemning the purported uncompromising moves by Atiku and Babangida to push Jonathan out of the PDP, the group vowed to take drastic steps to “redeem our creeks violated by unwanted elements and salvage our humanity from the so-called Nigerian federation that seeks to enslave us”.

It added: “In the Kaiama Declaration, we had agreed to be part of Nigeria in a functional federation that is just and exercises equity among her people, not one that treats the Ijaw and, indeed, Niger Deltans, as second class citizens.

“At independence, the development of the backward Niger Delta and the totally neglected Ijaw country was made the responsibility of the Federal Government, which has successively and consistently admitted neglect of the area.”

Chief E.K. Clark knows his limits. Most Ijaw youth believe him along with other Ijaw elders have sold themselves to the Nigerian political elite and the multinational oil corporations. His power in the Niger Delta has been overestimated in my honest opinion. He does not have the clout to control the various Ijaw militant groups that operate within the region, so he is a non-issue in my opinion. Even the MEND commanders who accepted the amnesty program have been replaced by other commanders who still believe in the "cause." There is a generational gap within the Ijaw community. Ijaw youth are becoming more violent in their assertion for control of the resources, while traditional Ijaw leaders and politicians are trying to take a diplomatic approach. These two groups are fighting for the control of the social movement.

What percentage of the crude oil is from the ND and what percentage of it is from Nigerian coastal waters. If you want an Ijaw President just look for a representative that will command respect with his brilliance. Jonathan is dumb, you can invite the current Nigerian Foreign Minister to come and run I think he is an Ijaw man who is very brilliant.

We must kick Jonathan out in 2011.

Unfortunately for Itsekiri it will quite impossible geographically to join the Yoruba since their land is surrounded by Ijaw and Edo ppl. If Edo minus Igbanke goes with Yoruba then there is a chance if not you might have to migrate back to Ijebu or wherever u came from to achieve that bruh.

But then again Lesotho is in the middle of South Africa so who knows you can still be part of Yoruba nation away from Yoruba land that is if your battle thirsty Ijo neighbors don't chase you into the ocean.
