Arewa Group Seeks Another Consensus Candidate by Ecash1: 1:47am On Jan 05, 2011
As agitation for another northern consensus president aside Alhaji Atiku Abubakar continues to hot up in the country, National Association of Arewa Citizens Action for Change, ACAC, has disclosed its intention to choose  another consensus candidate for northern Nigeria irrespective of party affiliation.

Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the group, Muslim Maigari, who disclosed their plan at the end of a meeting between the national executives, state executives and local government coordinators of the association in Bauchi, yesterday, said: ”We have observed that the presidency is for the north and the Ciroma-led committee had completed their assignment.

“However, what they did was entirely a PDP affair and the North needs to present a candidate that will be acceptable to all irrespective of party affiliation; that candidate should be produced and supported by all because of his sterling qualities.

“Our group now intends to form a committee of 40 well respected people, two from each state in the north, to sit down and bring the candidate that will be acceptable to all.

“Though we have nothing against Atiku, we want to go beyond PDP to choose the best candidate with good qualities that will be acceptable to all.”

He advised former President Ibrahim Babangida, Governor Bukola Saraki and Retired General Aliyu Gusau to contest PDP Primary election as stand by in case if Atiku didn’t  make it, adding that, one of them will definitely be the runner up to become second, which will result to a northerner  having  the chance to led the country again.

Muslim who mentioned that they have been going round the northern states to meets with states executives, added that so far, they have visited Borno, Yobe , Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe , Niger , Bauchi and Abuja the Federal Capital over the matter.

Stick to the topic and spare me the sanctimonious anger, it is irritating. Show me where it says presidency must be zoned in the constituion? Or is some PDP "gentleman's agreement" now superior to the constitution? What is even more irritating is the pretence at carrying the whole country along with the whole presenting a candidate that is "acceptable to all" trite. So why were only northern states consulted? I repeat, so why the shock and surprise when people from that section of the country discover that many people from the rest of the country look at them the way they do when this mentality seems rife?

Let the northerners bring a better politician to face GEJ so as to make the drama more interesting.
Part 1 of the film titled 'The race to Aso rock 2011' has just ended.
Here comes the part 2.

Thats the only thing they are concerned about. Why not a concensus on someone capable of ruling this country no matter what part he or she is from. People should start learning to put Nigeria first.

Please stop, it is getting a tad embarassing. Is zoning in the constitution? Is it anything beyond a PDP thing? So why try to make it anything beyond that? Perhaps what is even more embarassing is the fact that the very same party whose alleged ideals you so proudly and confidently espouse do not hold those very same ideals to the same level of importance as you do, if not please do explain to us why Northern candidates also came out during the PDP primaries after OBJ's first term? Wasn't the party meant to be respecting zoning? Why did Peter Odilli habour ambition and campaign after OBJ's second term when it was the time for the north? So why all this disgusting hypocrisy? If we are also to adhere to the zoning principle of the PDP then why would AREWA consider the whole north when there are six geopolitical zones and it would by logic be only the turn of Yar Adua's zone (which neither IBB or Atiku belong to)? It seems zoning only becomes an issue when it suits a certain section. If I remember correctly this zoning thing was even proved unconstitutional when the party tried to enforce it some years ago. So please, what on earth are you talking about? ? ? ? ? ? The mentality I refer to is the 'presidency na my papa property' mentality that seems rife in the north (if we are to be simply frank). After years of leadership coming from that section of the country and it remains the poorest part of the nation isn't there some feeling of embarassment? Isn't it time to simply consider the best candidate for the job? And people keep complaining about the North getting the negative publicity it does?

Re: Arewa Group Seeks Another Consensus Candidate by Southsea: 4:14pm On Jan 05, 2011
The statements made by Maigari are illogical, zoning is a PDP affair so you can't say the presidency belongs to the North. People are conviently forgeting that this country has 6 political zones and the South South (Niger Delta) largely responsible for over 80% of the country's foreign currency earnings has not ruled Nigeria until GEJ. With people like (not so smart) Maigari running this "consensus programme" for the North you can be sure that they will not go far.

If not Nigeria, what special gains is one part of the country going to get over the other based on "region of origin" of the president?
If this is what PDP meant by 'zoning' then they're just senseless!

And who makes it mandatory for the would-be goat to be accepted by all. Or is Nigeria gradually becoming a centralised state having it head-quarters in the north.
