Nasarawa is among states without a ventilator to help in the fight against coronavirus pandemic, but the state governor, Abdullahi Sule has bought 24 Toyota Hilux vehicles for state lawmakers, estimated at nearly N500 million. There are 169 ventilators nationwide spread across only 16 states, Daily Trust exclusively reported last week.

On Thursday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 407, with 128 patients discharged after treatment and 12 deaths reported. Speaker of Nasarawa House of Assembly, Ibrahim Abdullahi, on Monday stated that Abdullahi gave the 24 Toyota Hilux to the lawmakers as official vehicles.

At an average cost of N21m per car, they are worth a combined total of N504m. Some Medical and Health Workers in the state on Thursday protested non-payment of their March salary by Doma local government. They threatened to embark on industrial action from Friday, if they are not paid. Cost of ventilator Findings reveal that a hospital-grade ventilator cost between $25,000 (N9.175m) and $50,000 (N18.350 m), using the Central Bank’s official exchange rate of N367 for a dollar. A ventilator is a machine that provides mechanical ventilation by moving breathable air into and out of the lungs, to deliver breaths to a patient who is physically unable to breathe, or breathing insufficiently. A respiratory expert who craved anonymity said Nigeria requires about 10,000 respirators for emergencies over the ongoing pandemic.

Most of the ventilators already present in the country are in tertiary hospitals—federal medical centres and teaching hospital, he noted. He said ventilators were very important equipment, not only being used for supportive care of COVID-19 patients, but other respiratory illnesses, adding that it was important for all hospitals to have them.

Nasawara has not reported any confirmed case of COVID-19 but it shares boundaries with Kaduna, Abuja, Kogi, Benue and Taraba. Abuja, Kaduna and Benue have 58, six and one confirmed cases respectively.

I don't know why we are like this?
Few hours from now they will come up with a release that the cars were procured since January this year, just that the contractor delayed in executing the contract on time due to exigencies.

Some people conscience sha. How will you sit down comfortably in this car and the people you represent are wallowing in hunger and sickness.

Lost priority, visionless leaders and I don't see this ending soon except we make conscious effort in investing in human development.

On this, gov Abdullahi Sule is nothing but a fool.

You are buying flashy cars for bunch of idiots doing nothing when a pandemic is threatening the existence of mankind. Are you sure of your chances of surviving this catastrophy, let alone enjoying the vehicles.

Instead of making efforts, even if it costs the whole treasury of the state, to save your people, you are carried away by the euphoria of having unlimited access to the state treasury. angry

And there is no single ventilator in your state, such a full scale display of craving lunancy.

Don't worry, your cup go soon full, antelope.

This is a huge shame and an insult on the populace which they govern. To think in all of Nigeria, it took this pandemic to awaken government on basic health necessities, and even with donations, we can see the reluctance among our leaders to do the right things. Since we have abused democracy in this part of the world and everything governance represents, we are truely on a long road to having a sane society. My people, do what u can to improve ur chances to leave this shithole, cos it's not gonna get better even with the next generation cueing up to lead...the black man is his own problem

Funny enough they are all aware of the current pandemic because I can see them wearing masks while carrying out inspection of the vehicles.

Who said they don’t have access to good medical care here in Nigeria? They’ll use the same tax payers money they’re stealing to hire the best few medical professionals we have here while the poor citizens continue to languish

This is how the leaders once were in the Western World, but the people rose up. As long as Nigerians sit down and do nothing, the leaders will continue to loot and misappropriate funds.

just imagine when the whole world is working tiredness against a monster call coronal. powerful countries in dilemma. People die everyday, economy shuts, even in Nigeria here, Nigerians are asked to stay at home without any provision for such. and here is some of our Leaders buying expensive cars when the state doesnt have 1, even it parent, Nigeria is doing babiallah for it.

#500M

that will be builds standard hospitals with many ventilators....

Even the costlier ventilator USA wanted to buy then is $18,000/1, that around #6.5 million each.

just imagine if nassarawa state use

* around #250 million to build 3 standard hospitals . 1 in each senatorial districts and

use the remaining #250m to buy ventilators and install in them

but no ......................

we have many leaders without brain
