The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), on Sunday, sealed a four-storey building with visible signs of distress at 17, Obadina Street, Lagos Island

The General Manager of the Agency, Engr. Biola Kosegbe, stated that the Agency, acting on a tip-off from concerned citizens, sent a technical team to the location to ascertain the level of distress

She revealed that the officials found out that the building exhibited clear signs of internal distress, which was obvious from the exposed corroded reinforcement

Engr. Kosegbe added that the building was promptly sealed for further assessment by a team of Structural Engineers from the Agency, while the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory will conduct structural stability tests on concrete members in order to avert any mishap

She noted that the residents have been advised to find alternative accommodation pending the conclusion of all stability tests by the State Government

Kosegbe urged all Lagos residents to be their brothers’ keeper by notifying the Agency of any distressed buildings within their environment.

The General Manager reiterated that the State Government, through the Agency is determined to ensure that the lives and property of Lagosians are protected through the identification of distressed and prone-to collapse buildings in the State and prevention of hazards to occupants.

The kain houses built on the Lagos island ehn. A 30-40 year old bungalow will be re developed into a 3 storey building within 3-6 months.

There is no proper spacing amongst the houses there sef, everywhere choke. Just walk around some of the streets on Lagos island at night, you’ll see almost everyone outside receiving fresh air especially when there’s no light.

To even carry furniture enter your apartment na through balcony grin using ropes and ladders. Doors are too narrow to allow chairs in. Everyday new construction dey go on.

Roads sef narrow join. Na one ways plenty pass for there. If you no dey careful or be new driver on the island, you go pay lastma tire.

Omo Lagos Island na different world entirely.

Why do Lagos house agents collect as high as 100,000 for agreement and commission when they aren't lawyers.

A house of 96000 annually would still require 100000 agreement and commission and some even collect 2 years upfront.

Pure unchecked extortion.

The occupants of this building may be sad and angry that wickedness has been meted out on them..... but folks, it's for your own good, to save you from more heartbreak.
