Another Eyo festival, the signature cultural festivity of Lagos is around the corner. Chairman of the festival planning committee, Mr. Disu Holloway, said last weekend that this year’s festival will hold on February 5. Holloway said this at an interactive session with newsmen at the palace of theLagos monarch, Oba Rilwanu Akiolu. According to him, ‘’the festival which was scheduled to have taken place in October last year was shifted to February this year due to the West African Senior Certificate Examinations (WASSCE), November/December in the country then. With the new date in place, people from all walks of life will be able to attend the historic Eyo festival. Corroborating the chairman, Chief Fatai Lawal Olumegbon, the Olumegbon  of Lagos, noted that this is the second edition of the unique and repackaged event of the festival. It will feature a lot of cultural performances from various groups which is similar to other festivals in Lagos. However, he warned that any masquerade caught outside Lagos Island during the festival would be arrested and prosecuted. He added that adequate security had been put in place ensure safety of life and property during the festival. As a way of boosting and sustaining tourism and culture in Lagos State, the government has promised to continue to support the yearly festival.

Good! There's noting I would love more than to be there. But the festival always honors a recently departed Lagosian. I didn't see a name. . .
