Nigeria may face petrol scarcity if oil workers make good the threat of withdrawing their services nationwide should the Federal Government insist on registering employees in the oil sector on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers made the threat in a letter addressed to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva.

The unions kicked against plans by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation to register oil workers on the IPPIS platform.

The letter, which was dated June 19, 2020, and sighted by our correspondent in Abuja on Sunday, was jointly signed by the General Secretaries of PENGASSAN and NUPENG, Lumumgba Okugbawa and Olawale Afolabi, respectively.

The unions said their apprehension about the IPPIS platform stemmed from the fact that it discountenanced the peculiarities of the oil and gas sector with regards to collective bargaining agreement and approved pay structure between the unions and the Federal Government.

“We reiterate that industrial peace in the sector cannot be guaranteed if the salaries of our members are stopped or if the implementation is carried out unilaterally without our input,” the unions said.

Afolabi also confirmed to our correspondent that the unions would embark on industrial action if the government neglects their requests.

He, however, said that no date had been fixed for the commencement of such action as the unions were optimistic that the government would listen to their demands.

The letter stated that the unions were surprised that though the Federal Government recently revived the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System, where all affected agencies were currently on, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation still insisted on enrolling oil workers on the IPPIS platform.

Describing the IPPIS platform as defective and problematic, the unions urged the petroleum minister to intervene in the matter to avert crisis in the oil sector.

Both oil unions stressed that they were counting on Sylva’s understanding in resolving the matter.

It's high time these people realise that striking is an outdated way of getting what you want in this country. Always striking yet nothing good has ever come out of it angry

I will never take this country serious again, at least not until we find out what they used the all the Covid19 fund for. Everyone in the position of power only wants one thing, and that is to satisfy their own personal needs.

If you think that all these strikes you are seeing are for the betterment of you and the country, then you mist be deluded, no one even knows or cares that you exist.

By the way, a quick shout out to all the Health workers around the world, that have risked and are still risking their lives in the face of this Pandemic. Your reward awaits you in heaven.

Also, shout out to President Buhari who might also be shocked by this news, we pray you will not die of shock.

Meanwhile,

We

Have

More

Pressing

Issues!

Strike that never sees the light of the day. Since 2015, I don't think I can can't more than one or twice that I've had to join a long queue due to fuel scarcity

Even fuel scarcity are unheard in the December period. What is happening?

The Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) is an information Communications Technology (ICT) project initiated by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of payroll administration for its Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs)

Many Nigerians are their own problem, they just look for any opportunity to cripple the economy

I don't understand, why are workers afraid of IPPIS

Cause the way I see it, this IPPIS will eliminate ghost workers and so many inconsistencies

I think those fuelling this crises are those at the top benefiting from the corrupt payment!!!

As long as you get your agreed salary, then what seems to be the problem

[s]You are a liar. A propangandist for IPPIS. [/s] That is what you people always say at the beginning, '...eliminate, curtail ghost workers.' It's a lie and a deception. You end up 'amputating' people's salaries arbitrarily. You tax their Gross salaries instead of the Basic. You tax allowances inclusive and even stop peculiar ones. Stop misinforming the public.

Even the Pension and Housing Fund you have deducted from the Federal Tertiary Institutions, into which account have you deposited them now?

You that you are defending IPPIS, are you on it yourself? Is CBN, NNPC, INEC, FIRS, and NPA on it?

So do you want to say 'a ghost worker' cannot be added 'on top' right there in Abuja by someone in the IPPIS office? You people lack credibility, that is why Nigerian workers dislike you.
Let PENGASSAN join at their own peril.
These are issues you can iron out. Government have made their intentions known

Lay your fears/experiences on the table

For instance on the issues of salary cut, tax on gross income instead of basic salaries e.t.c are genuine an should be discussed with government in a transparent manner so that everyone will know what going on

And not against IPPIS totally, you both have reasons

Iron it out if possible sign contract that would honour both proposals

if government refuses then your strike can be justified

Let's look at this objectively...

What's the Defect in the IPPIS ? How can it be resolved ?

If this helps to rid ghost workers, shouldn't it be something that should be welcomed by all?

Any small disagreement, the unions threaten strike action! Guess why this happens? Because the government wants to run the oil sector... as I effectively as possible. Who else read about the Kaduna refinery that spent incurred over 60billion in costs including but didn’t produce 1 drop of product in 2018. Guess how much went of employee costs, 23 billion! Should government still be running this? You answer that.

Is this why they don’t want to be on IPPIS? Maybe

Government has no business running a business!
